Break Time (Joe)

Time for me to back out of here for awhile. I've been neglecting many other areas, chores, etc for some time and can't put these things off any longer. Amazing how many hours I spend in front of this machine with the marine forums. Seems like all I've been doing lately is repeating myself...

Removing Gel From Pulsepacks (1968/72) - How?

Some time back (years), there was talk of repairing the faulty components within the old style ignition pulsepacks (Battery Capacitance Discharge). In order to do this the gel had to be removed. To my knowledge, the process of removing the gel was never discussed. To simply dig the gel out...

Re: will not idle at slow speeds

Re: will not idle at slow speeds (General Engine Checks) (J. Reeves) First, check the compression. It should be approx 100+ psi and even on all cylinders. Next, with the s/plugs removed, check the spark. It should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue flame on all cylinders. (The s/plugs must...

    '62 Evinrude 3hp lightwin carb problems :(

Dismantle the carburetor again and double check your work. Sounds like you have the float installed improperly, or you neglected to install the 302984 small round cork gasket on the bottom of the brass high speed nozzle at the bottom of the carburetor. (Carburetor Float Setting) (J. Reeves)...

1969 55 rude feels like it is not getting gas at wot

If you have proper compression and spark, you've overlooked something within the carburetors or the timer base under the flywheel is sticking at a retarded setting.

    1986 xp 150

Hopefully all you have is a blown head gasket. At any rate, you need to remove that cylinder head to access exactly what is wrong. At any rate, you need to get that water out of the cylinders and oil them so as to avoid rust damage.

1974 85hp Johnson lower unit install

There are two plastic water tube guides that help align the tubes into the water pump assy. The idea is to have the guides stuck into the water pump. One is slightly longer than the other so as to enable one to insert one tube, then the other. The guides have a habit of sliding up the tube a...

    Question From Joe Reeves

To begin, the powerhead mentioned below in all aspects is identical from 1988 to at least 1991.

I recently sold a rebuilt 1991 200hp looper powerhead to a friend that lives a few blocks from me. His engine is 1989 200hp looper and he is in the process of changing the powerheads over...

Only runs with choke 1/2 out

You do indeed have a fouled, clogged, gummed carburetor. The cure is to remove, clean, and rebuild it. I have no idea if the kit you have will work or not. But if not, you will be able to pick a kit up at NAPA I would think.

    carburetor 56 Johnson

It would help if you described the spring somewhat. Was it atached to the arm just under the throttle roller? If so, one end of the spring goes through the hole in that arm with the other end going through a small hole just above the intake manifold.

The only other spring would be to...

Now, A question "from" Joe (302517 Gear)

In going thru my remaining stock, I've come across two new reverse gears OMC part number 302517 which is listed as being unavailable since 1988.

Intially I thought the gear(s) were for the the 28hp, 33hp, and 40hp series, but in going thru the books clear back to 1960, these engines...

One Time Off Topic Item (Part Needed)

I'd like to think that I've helped a couple or so boaters on this site, and hopefully someone here can help me out. A scanner of mine (Mustek 1200 III EP) blew out its power adaptor. If one of you have one that you would part with, I'd like to know about it via my e-mail address...

    Chumbucket - Vineland B/Docktor?

I've still got a few powerheads left in stock and have been trying to get in touch with Harry Nitsche (The Boat Docktor) in Vineland. He has some info I need. I keep leaving e-mail messages to him which are never answered. Also, when calling the phone number that he has had for years on end, I...

    OMC Flywheel Problem

Trent.... When a flywheel begins to hit anything in its vicinity (and nothing has come loose), it would have to be due to a main bearing failure which allows the crankshaft to tilt. At any rate, that's always been the case with the ones I"ve encountered.
