    Rub Rail Restoration??

1 additional idea... I didn't see anyone list this 1. rather than the 4' piece across the transom. now I also have heard allow extra for shrinkage with time.. But you could do 2 pieces with the break at center of bow and center of transom, so 2 pieces 28' just another way.

Ok guys, I'm going to answer this question myself. After just 7 hours of hanging above wood heater in basement, this piece was tough as nails.. absolute No Worries about anything being weak, or breaking at the thin slices. Now on the ones I actually build for the boat, the segmentation will be...

Since we turned the page. Those cuts don’t go all the way through as they may look in some of the pics. Here is another angle. And this is an exagated radius. Just seeing how far I could push things. I guess one could apply penetrating epoxy and soften the fibers in bending. All kinds of...

Yes gm280. I tend to over-do everything. Being an industrial/commercial electrician is how the "good one's" do things. I made a terrible residential electrician... I was good but the profit margin suffered. I don't do code minimum "Anything" But yes I tend to strive for a new and improved IDEAR...

So my cut and gut thread has wood shop class too..Lol. I was somewhat concerned the thin layers of wood being weak to break under load in the radius. In a pounding situation. Anyone see a potential problem with this.? I figure the epoxy and by time it gets glass over it, things should be ok...

Kinda odd to run 2 smaller blades on a 12” mitre. DON’t TRY THIS AT HOME. ! The smaller blades keep you off the bed of the saw. I’m surprised everything fell together like this. I mean you couldn't have planned it any better. Engineers goofed. I have a table saw but this way is much easier...

I have had a absolutel terrible time posting pics today. Here is corner PB’d and the angle in place. I am not going to glass this prototype. But you get the idea Yes, I started this morning doing a practice run of mini-Lap Joints, and that worked so good I transposed to this plato of...

So I spent some time tinkering at the saws, just experimenting,(Playing) It started out simple and it evolved into a special kind of crazy. Here’s the results. This is my idea for stringers. Peanut butter between slots and glass over. This was just a dry run on a small scale to see if I could...

    Epoxy question.

Thanks Racerone. The composite is great Idea. I checked about cosa board for transom... But with freight charges it was going to be over... well more than I was going to spend at this time with a total rebuild and motors and list goes on.. In my situation. I have already stockpiled enough 1X's...

    Epoxy question.

Thank you Chris. So that information puts me in better shape than I had thought. My concerns are the stringers and transom. All of these are under deck or covered from sun exposure. So if my workmanship is of good quality. This restoration will outlast me. Thank you much.

    Epoxy question.

A long winded question... With several forks and bumps in the road. I have been reading here and many other places, and no real answer found... (if there is A answer) I don't really expect a cut and dry answer. As every application is different, products are different. weather and locations...

Ok back to stringers topic. I have read so much my eyes are crossed.. and its clear as mud. some say bed stringers with goo.. poly. some say it doesn't matter. others say anything is an improvement over mass production. my 69 mako seems to be thick glass on the belly. so I'm not sure the hard...

So no takers on how they bulletproof secured top to hull. Like I said earlier, I suspect that inside the gunnel back toward the transom about the corner it is secured some kind of funky way(out of sight.. sealed). more than just rub-rail and foam I suspect. That 3/4" plywood I saw inside the...

That section floor was I’d say +-400 lbs. and it was weeping water profusely along stringers and underside.
