    merc 225S timing

1974 merc 225S, Ford 302. The Merc manual lists the timing for 10 degrees BTDC. But it also has a footnote to retard it 4 degrees if using unleaded gasoline. Does that mean it should be set at 6 degrees BTDC? (sorry if it sounds like an obvious answer). Why would unleaded fuel make a...

    1994 9.9 evinrude skipping

1994 evinrude 9.9 E10RELERB. When running on plane, one cylinder will drop out for awhile, then kick back in (runs fast-slow-fast-slow). At idle it runs OK but a bit rough, with the motor wiggling around a bit. I have replaced the plugs, power pack, and coil but no real change. Any ideas for a fix?

    Flare Shelf Life

I was looking at some of the dates on the flares that came with an older boat I bought last year. Some of them have "expiration" dates in 1996 or older. Are the flares still OK, or should I get new ones? Also, how does one dispose of the out-dates ones?

    distributer and coil identification

Can anyone tell me about this distributer and coil? The coil is short and has a metal U-shaped bracket over the top. The engine is a GM5.7L originally in a Volvo Penta set up (AQ271?) The egnine is not in the original boat and is now set up to a Merc Alpha1, so I don't have much information...

    Engine alignment

1980 ChrisCraft Scorpion 230, 5.7L V8, (I think originally Merc 260). When adjusting the engine alignment, is it OK to just use the adjusting nuts to raise or lower the front of the engine? I know the best way is to use a hoist. Currently, the alignment bar is very tight to the the top of the...

Where is the best place to position a jack on a tandem trailer to be able to remove both tires from a side? And where to place it, if different, to remove just one tire at a time? It seems like I need to lift it in two stages (jack, block, shim up jack, jack again) to get it high enough when...

1.The water pump kit i got does not have an oil seal in the top of the pump body. The drive shaft just passes through the top of the stainless steel liner and plastic housing.
