When I pulled the drive, I noticed that various items (studs, shift slide, outer bore, were coated with a torquise colored grease. I have coupler spline grease and U-joint/ gimbal bearing grease and 2.4.C. What is the torquise colored grease and is it for general assembly or special applications?

Has it replaced 2.4.C to use on the shift slide?

Re: Grease question

2-4-C grease will work fine for that, I'ts needed more to hold the slide in place when installing the drive than trying to lubricate it for ease of use. That is what the roller on the arm is for.

Jack of all trades, Master of none.

Think how much longer things would last when using the best grease for a job instead of something that is in the "Yeah, it'll work" catagory.

Re: Grease question

So, does anyone know what the torquise colored grease is? Or is it a local thing?

Re: Grease question

I had a can of "turq" grease once. I remember it was a "waterproof" wheel bearing grease. I had some pink colored once also. Both "felt" more like jello than slick like grease. I went back to the ol black axel grease of my grandpa's era. WHEN I can find it!
The pretty colored "waterproofs" didn't last any longer or hold up any better than granpa's.

How much better can a "better choice" actually be????What I use is 1-hi temp 2 waterproof 3 corrosion control ..etc...Cant say I have ever had anything fail due to using the wrong grease.Enlighten me please, cause I hate being wrong especially if it will cause harm to my boat.
