1974 IMP 18' trihull. I am getting some leakage around the sending unit on one of my metal gas tanks. I want to reseal the rubber gasket under the unit. Is there a Permatex material or sealent to use. I have not been able to find a replacement gasket without buying a whole new sender kit.

Re: gas tank gasket

You need to repair the leak properly, and a tube of sealant regardless of its intended purpose is not the correct way. Take the sender unit off, use the old seal as a template and make a new one. If you are not confident with this task than fit a new kit. This is a fuel tank, in a boat; it’s not the thing to be trying to save a few bucks on. Fix it properly. While you’re at it, do the same maintenance on the other one.

Check with your local marine service center in your area. They probably have them. I know we buy them a dozen at a time.
