Alpha 1 #0D554000: Can someone confirm whether or not this drive should have the intermediate shift shaft bushing or not? The manual says to install it, but also says that the bushing was not used in later models. It currently does not have one, but the shift shaft is slopppy loose in the hole of the drive shaft housing (upper and lower units not assembled).

Unless you have an Alpha I SS, you don't have the bushing.
Here is what an AI SS lower unit looks like.
It's the zoom boat Alpha drive.

I don't think I have an SS. It does have "1.5 R" stamped into the upper left corner of the sticker with the serial number.

Again, read the manual for your drive. I know I gave you the link to the OEM manual before, but here it is again.

Had you even looked at the first part of it you would have know that 1.5R stamp is the ratio and direction.
You DO NOT have an SS drive. Look at the picture I posted. Does your drive have the pointy bullet on the front of the drive? NO, then you don't have a racing SS drive.

Re: Aplha 1 shift shaft bushing

Thanks Don S.

I did read the beginning of the manual you linked for me, and the specific pages you had noted. I really appreciate your help. That is why I looked again at the sticker to find the ratio mark and reported what I had found. Not having had this type of drive before, and knowing it was not the original drive for the boat, I reported what I saw, not knowing if the "R" meant "racing", "reverse", or "right hand" rotation.

Also, Thanks for pointing out the difference in the point of the bullet. I had not noticed the forward curve in the front of the diagram you posted. Mine just goes straight down to the bullet.

Thank you again, for the information and direction.
