In Minnesota my entire life...I don't notice the cold any longer. -20F air temp for the high this upcoming Monday...the low is much colder and much colder yet the further north you go here in MN. Was -33F air temp as our cabin last weekend and the snowmobiles didn't like moving at -20 but didn't bother at -33. One is only set for -20 and the other is almost for -40. As cold as it is in the entire country, is a normal winter day during a usual year. Several weeks of below zero is expected. I can only imagine how much our heating bill is going to be. Have already spent $700 since October in fuel for the Cabin heat.

Woke up to a foot of new snow, 11 deg F, and 35kt winds. Thought for a minute, decided it was "teenage son" weather for clearing a path and vehicles, and watched from the window with a mug of fresh java. Good to be the King!

I want to rant about the weather too....but I can't. Its sunny out this morning in the plus temperatures....(5?c which is about 45-50?F)...looks like a nice day out. We had about 9 hrs of snow this year..maybe....which is about 1" deep..maybe, almost more of a dusting but enough to qualify.
BUT, I will rant about the pipeline protesters here in B.C!!!....man, they hate that oil for some reason....but they love their smartphones, tablets, computers, shoes, medical research, bike tires, helmets, surfboards, high end winter gear, water bottles...anywhoooo the oil dependent list would fill up this rant completely!!...ahh, if they only knew

bring on that pipeline and the oil industry!!....lets just be safe and aware about it!

I have a insulated and sheeted attached 2 stall garage, I just turned the heat on, a bud is coming over to work on his sled. It's 5 degrees in there......

...you know having been on the Metric system for 30+ years....I can't think what that temp is in celcius..LOL.
0? in celcius is freezing, so 5? in celcius is about 40?F or close...whereas 32? in fahrenheit is freezing....so 5?f is...what....-10?c? (help me out here fellow Canucks).

WOW after reading so many of these "rants" I almost feel like I have no ranting issues. BUT, even with zero snow, the temperatures are so cold right now that I can't even work on the many painting projects I have started. Primer won't even work properly in 30 degrees. So I guess I'll be forced to do some woodworking instead right now... Just got to get the shop warmed up to start.

(Rant on) Where are all the tree hugging-frog kissing environmental wacko's at now that we are having record low temperatures. Funny how those crybabies fall off the radar when it gets cold out, but come back with a vengeance in the middle of summer when it warms up like it's suppose to. :

They are stuck on a Icebreaker in Antarctica were they were studying global warming, when the ocean froze. ;-)

I have to say, California has it's problems, but at least I'm warm.

The governor just ordered all public schools closed this upcoming Monday here in MN. Kids flatly refuse to wear appropriate gear even if you send them outside to the bus stop with it.

...yeah, its funny how you start to identify physically with a given temperature number and what it means. I think of the metric system measurement in 4 levels of 10? increments:
Level 1: 0?c. = Winter or 'cold' (ie: freezing...so 32?f)
Level 2: 10?c. = Fall weather (..temp wise this is about...50?f)
Level 3: 20?c. = Nice, comfortable (early) summer weather (...about 70?f)
Level 4: 30?c. = Hot, verging on uncomfortable (...about 90?)

....so when I hear about weather in those ranges I can quickly identify the physical level of comfort or discomfort. I'm still familiar (like most 'older' Canadians) with all the fahreneit levels over freezing...but not so much under 32?f.

Now, the sun is beaming in...and I'm listening to some of the Winter storm that is hitting the east both in Canada and the U.S...hang in there guys! OR maybe time for a quick weekend in Las Vegas- LOL.

Sky is black to the north and the wind just picked up.
The 90+- foot evergreens are starting to shed the built up snow, glad I am not standing under them and the maple trees are launching their little helicopter seed pods all over the yard.

Gotta go to the gas station for 5 gallons of primo gas for the sled and 20 gallons of diesel, be prepared you never know what can hit this time of year.

Agreed, I don't know that I've ever heard of it prior to today. Recall that they changed the whole windchill scale several years back where our -45 is actually much colder on the old scale used when I was a kid. Also, our governor is an ultra, super, amazingly incapable, pansy, times a thousand to the 10th power.

Michigan is cold, but I chose to live here and embrace each season as they arrive. Boats, mushroom picking, swimming, fishing snowmobiling, deer hunting. I love all of it. Living in cold weather locations gives me an excuse to work hard and take a week down where it's warm. In the mean time we will just "live large" with what we have.

Yeah, I just caught that on wcco but I was in college then and don't recall. Growing up I think school was called off one time for snow by the school that never followed the other districts when they closed when it was a district decision. That was also when the old wind chill scale was in place when we used to throw these ultra cold temps around more.
