I hear ya, Angus. I was mainly commenting on the media coverage. They make it sound like the sky is falling. Just appears to us(the wife and I) that anything out of the ordinary that happens in the east is a major ordeal, yet we get a blurb about the temp in Frostbite Falls even tho the longevity of our cold is way out of the ordinary(and way below normal temps). The upper Midwest pretty much gets ignored most of the time. Which is fine.

My comments had nothing to do with the residents out east..... The weather pretty much sucks east of the Mississppi, at the very least......

Daughters school just closed for Monday. They haven't done a statewide closing in WI........... yet. Needless to say, she's very happy... A bunch of schools are closing.....

finally warmed up to 68 yesterday and today, mid 30's at night though and since I've been "off" PG&E (gas stove and electric) went up to $147 from $48 the month before!!! Must be me being home and staying warm during day?? Also my buddy hangin here so may cost just a wee bit more, but can't be much - 3 bed 2.5 bath two story, 8 yrs old, dual pane windows, tile roof and good insulation

I'm all in!

I'm 54 year old, successful and I still have to clear my driveway, with a shovel. :(

I have had my awesome 69" Ford Backhoe, for 3 years now just waiting for this snowfall and storm. Past few years I barely used it at all. A few months ago, I was playing with it and a hydraulic hose blew, one very hard to get to.

"no problem I'll just take the hoe off, use the tractor some and fix the hose, whenever I get some time"

Ok, so I knew NOT having 2500 lbs of weight on the back, might be a problem, but I did not think that on SLICK snow covered ground THE TRACTOR WOULD NOT EVEN MOVE UNDER IT'S OWN POWER!

As a last resort, I dug out the power blade for my John Deere 318 garden tractor, so with wheel weights and extra weights, but by then, the wet snow it was too deep and it went almost no where also.

Plus, I fell on slick snow and hurt my arm.

I'm staying inside.

This was a rant, not a technical question.

Besides, Kinda tough to find tractor tire chains on a Sunday, when there is already 7" of snow getting ready to drift. ;)

Yeah, if you put chains on all you would do is bust up the chains. That bad boy needs the hoe to balance things out.

Minus 5 degrees F. at 11:52 PM and dropping. Looking for a high of minus 14 tomorrow (Monday) and a low of minus 19 tomorrow night.

Where's Al Gore when you need him...??

Well … Nashville was 7? this morning. Not too crazy by Northern standards, but down here it's pretty much the 6th rider of the apocalypse.

Didn't even really get snow to go with it. :facepalm:

I feel your pain, I followed a mustang into work this morning. I guess we're supposed to feel sorry for the idiots who but sports cars and than try to drive them in winter, as he waved "politely" as I finally found a place to pass him. LOL

Sure but back in the day, all we had were rear wheel drives without any computer assist. Surely these guys can get around a few bad days without hitting someone especially given they must have basic traction control and abs but are pre stability control.

well yes and no. remember a lot of "us" as in "old guys" had rear wheel drive. (technically I still do as both my truck and jeep are rear wheel drive unless locked in) but some of the younger crowd has never had the pleasure of RWD.

I lived in Boston and drove a Porsche around all year for about 3 years. I never had an issue. Just know what a good idea is and what a bad idea is. I think what is happening is people with AWD/4X4 are causing the issues. Back in the day everyone had rear wheel drive which was lousy in the snow but every one went slow knowing this. Noe you get some guy in his AWD/4X4 blasting past someone in RWD looking at them like they are an idiot.

With that said I did have winter tires on my Porsche.
