Xta ~ Sea

1978 18' General Marine "Ranger" 305 Chevy Volvo 280 stern drive

My Grandfather bought her new and I grew up with it on Big Bear Lake in Ca. In 1999 it was "sunk" in storage (parked with plug in it) in 2001 I slapped a horribly done floor over the rot and got it kind of running. Ran it that way until 2004 when it was just to bad to take out. 2007 it got stripped down, new stringers, new floor, new carpet, I upholstered the bow myself and bought some really nice seats. the seats never got mounted and I ran out of money. Fast forward to Memorial day weekend this year, and my wife was nice enough to promise the family it will be on the water for the 4th of July this year. It was her way of kicking me in the a**. So it went into the shop, for new gauges and a tune up. Well there is a leak in the transom so the motor and drive came off it this morning for the repair. The transom is actually in very good shape for the age. While it is there they are doing the bellows and going through the outdrive, motor tune up, spark plugs, wires, hoses, belt, fuel pump, starter, alternator, carb rebuild, filters, new gauges, new gauge senders, and I just picked up a huge odysey battery (1150CCA 205 min reserve marine). It will not be pretty for the 4th, but it should run beautiful. After the 4th I will have to get a new motor cover built as the plywood box is a little cheap looking, finish up the side interior panels, and get the gel coat redone so it looks nice.

Here she is Brand New

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

Hello all...

I just found this site and love it. I grew up on Clearlake, CA and have been around boats most of my life. But, I've never owned one myself, until now. I just got my very own first boat.

It's a 1978 Ranger Tri-Hull - So YEA, count me in da club. It has a 305ci Mercruiser I/O.

I have a 1978 General Marine "Ranger" with the chevy 305 and Volvo Penta 280. My Grandfather bought it new, awesome boat.

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

Hello All, I am new to iboats. I did some trading with my brother 13 years ago and he got a freshly refurbished 1976 Glastron T-169. I just talked him out of it today, since it has been sitting under a tree since then 1998. I will be pulling it out of the weeds in the morning and cleaning out. Hopefully it hasn't wasted away again. I will post pics of it if you fellow Tri-Hullers want to see them, after I take them.

Can't wait to see it, start a thread in the boat restoration section if you do much to it!

You can't say vintage glastron without a picture, or it didn't happen.

Here's some pictures of my 1972 Starcraft 15' Capri tri-hull. Motor is a 1970 Mercury 800, which runs fantastic... I've done lots of upgrading to this boat since I bought it a few months ago.

It's an AFI poly swim platform I picked up new on ebay for $100. They have both outboard and I/O versions. The ladder part is actually installed upside down from the instructions, because I didnt want those swing clamps on the top. Works better this way, imo.

And thanks!

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

Hope I'm not threadjacking, but heres some pictures of the interior courtesy lights I just put in yesterday. I plan on taking the boat out at night for the first time on the 4th, to watch the fireworks over the St. Lawrence river.

Re: Tri-Hull Club...Yes? No? Maybe?

Might have to get that hub rebuilt to get rid of that prop slip. That's the only thing I could think of, unless you are getting too much flex out of the prop fins before they finally bite...otherwise the only other thing it could be is cavitation.
