Sorry about no vacation wetness. But a vaca is for relaxing, not pushing yourself to get the boat done. Is the TV AC working now?

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Thanks GA good to hear from you again. Yes indeed the Tow Vehicle A/C is working again. Ohh and what good would a thread update be without some pics.

Electrical switches in their new 1/8" thick stainless steel switch plate.

The bow light is mounted of course only using stainless steel hardware.

I fully mounted the radio, I decided to change the location and not use the drybox I already had. I did this for ease of the electrical installation. The three most nerve racking things I have done on this project to date have been, installing the radio, installing the switch plate, and installing the horn. It was nerve racking as crap using a grinder and dremel tool to cut holes in my newly refinished console.

Chris these are for you buddy you wanted some OMC Porn you got it.

This is before the motor was permenantly mounted, also before I had cleaned up the the install on the wiring basically this was slap it all on there to see if it is pumping water now.

A little more cleaned up and mounted.

One last one

I have to get a little trim fitting done on the steering bezel but my little one is obviously ready to go boating.

It is pucker time drilling/cutting on newly finished part. :fear: Ah - The 2 stroke aroma. And I see the little one is claiming the radio. :)

Ohh and here is a little video why because I have been trying to figure out how to post video. You can tell in the video that she has a little miss at low idle but I don't have a tach on her yet to figure out is she is trying to idle to low. Kind of hard to diagnos without a tach.

What can i say lokonn that has been the most rewarding part of this experience. I hope to have the boat in this good of shape until he is grown enough to take fishing trips in it w me.

Well I decided to go with everyone's idea and try a little test dip, I smiled but it is FAR from ready for splashing. I have somehow freaking hooked the steering up backwards. I think the old johnson might be a little scared of water cause she sure didn't want to come to life I got her running but she sure wouldn't plane out at all and wanted to stumble and die I believe the timing is not advancing properly.

But one thing that put one Big smile on my face was this.

Just keep her covered or garaged when not in use and she'll stay looking great for a long time.

Everything is looking real good Sig.

Yeah buddy! The things you ran into are what the test dip is for. Looking good!

If you ever finish her, she's gonna be a good looker. Never mind, even unfinished, she's a good looker. :D I'm not calling this a splash, only one one of the best looking leak tests ever. ;)

I don't know how I missed pictures of your Johnson! :fish:

Rig looks AWESOME Sig! Congrats on the successful "Leak test"! :thumb:

hopefully that little cough at idle isn't related to the motor's struggles getting you on plane...how many RPMs was she turnin' @ WOT?

EDIT: Try the "Reeve's method" for getting your WOT spark advance in the ballpark. I might have a test prop that you can borrow to check/adjust the spark advance @ the ramp.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Hey Chris I appreciate it man, that was a big part of the problem is that I don't have the tach hooked up yet. Upon bringing it home I noticed that the plastic socket that secures the spark advance linkage is loose and missing about three of the tabs that hold it in place PLUS I think I have a fuel pump issue as well (I bought the replacement on EBAY and I am thinking that was a bad idea). So I am going to rebuild the NEW replacement fuel pump with the kit I have already purchased I am going to get the tach on her and link and sync out and see what happens from there.

That stupid plastic ball and socket joint has got to rank in the dumbest of engineering ideas ever.

On a doom and gloom note my neighbor just entirely trashed the lower unit on his new bass boat. A 3000 RPM neutral drop ON DRY land will do that to a clutch dog.

Which is completely befuddling to me as that is the second one in 6 months that I know of doing high rpm neutral drops on shore. Let alone in the freaking water.

Re: Time to get started on the starcraft resto.

Awesome! Starcraft hull wetting, a thing of beauty.

Did your Johnny's fuel system get the full work over? Carbs cleaned, fuel lines replaced, fuel pump replaced. The fuel pump is a pretty simple device, if the diaphragm is not ripped or stiff with age then it should work. When you take the pump off, be sure to check the vacuum hole and make sure it's clean. Most of the time the bogging and she won't go on a plane it's the fuel system. Timing being off to cause the motor to run that bad would also cause backfiring in either the exhaust or intake.

So how old is your neighbor and where does he get his money for doing such wanton destructive stuff?
