^^^^ Good one Jas, but...GA probably has no idea what 2 minutes in the box is, he's south of the Mason Dixon. Kev probably thinks that guy is a little old to be a skateboarder.

You guys are sumpin' else. Of course I know what 2 minutes in the box is. It;s when a rugby player is put off the field for a period of time because of a serious rules infraction.

GO PENS. GET BACK ON THE ICE, SID.

I'm looking for another free glasser to post.

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

I have been lurking on the forum for a couple of months. I am about to purchase my first starcraft. I have a choice of a 1976 SS with the original 1976 85hp Merc no tilt & trim, engine starts and runs well, hull & trailer in good shape, transom shows slight weakness in top starboard side, some of the wiring is cracked and brittle in the engine. $750

Or a 1972 SS with 1994 VRO Rude with tilt & trim, a 1984 9.9 Johnson kicker. I need to test engine. Seller wants to remove vro due to trouble with excessive oil in carbs.
Hull, transom & trailer in good shape.$1750

What would be your choice?

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Ok, so here is what I am thinking here guys...

As some of you might know I have been in search of a 16 footer priced just right. I am also thinking of our buddy Kenny who recently gave up his nice rig all in the name of finances. I know that Mike would like to get his hands on an Islander (or similar) if the price were right too. I'm certain there are lots of guys just like us. You know, dudes who like Starcrafts but just don't have the bankroll for one!

Then we have the Starcraft on clist thread where we often times find cool/interesting boats for the budget conscious and post them up. It also seems like when we know what another guy need we try to find it for him, which is great!

I also get the feel that there are a number of us who are afflicted by "Multiple Boat Syndrome" so this would be a "safe" place for us to hang out as we feed our MBS issue.

This thread is an attempt to sort of bring all of those pieces together.

Anyway, you get the gist I think.

If you are in search of a Starcraft. If you are on a budget... If you don't mind taking a hull that was left for junk or pulling an old forgotten rig out of the weeds and trying to make something out of it... If you might just consider yourself a "bottom feeder"... Than this thread might be for you!

If you would like to help other guys score super deals on rigs that might otherwise find their way to a scrap yard than this thread might be for you too!

I'll keep the list of what we need up at the top here as we see fit.

Let's have some fun and maybe help each other out too, eh!:D

The original post makes no mention of aluminum, tin, tinny or glass. Look at what I highlighted in red. Remember glassers make great donors and should we shun our glass SC brethren?

Welcome, jp. Honestly it would be better to post this as a new thread in the Starcraft section where more people will see it. This thread is kinda special for cheap SCrafters. And if you have any pics or an ad for reference, it would go a long way. Transoms and deck are not major deal breakers in a tin boat. Older Merc wiring harnesses do get like that. And if the internal motor harness is bad there's a good chance the boat side (between the motor and remote control) is the same way. They can be replaced with new CDI harnesses for about $300 or take your chance with an eBay replacement. I rewired mine as a temporary measure, but I know it won't last. As far as the Rude, the VRO may just need adjusted or rebuilt. I no Rude expert at all, but it seems switching to pre-mix is no big deal according to what I read here. Good luck!

You didn't say what size rude. I vote #2. Merc is more expensive to maintain parts are harder to find, no t & t.

Use the VRO issue to talk seller down, to 1000 to 1200. I've been reading here about VRO's. Oil pumps at a constant rate depending on RPM if it is a variable rate set up. Too much oil is most likely a not enough fuel issue. Buy the boat and find the air leak or obstruction. New fuel lines and filters, or find issue in tank, not venting? My $.02 less inflation.

GA Boater, I do believe you are being a pain just to be a pain (I like your style).

But, let's read a little closer...

Glass boat guys have money to burn. Metal boat guys have normal human being budgets.

Glass boats go to the landfill. Metal boats go to the scrap yard.

Let's have some fun and maybe help each other out too, eh!

Grinding glass is hardly fun, pull some video from the rebuild forum and I'm sure you'll agree. And more than anything, suggesting a fella buy a glasser to rebuild is certainly not helpful. It's really just a mean joke.

OK, now that we have that all cleared up we can continue with our regularly scheduled program:D

Now. you are just pulling OP rank. I must say that I never espoused joining the grinding camp. You did say in the op "Let's have some fun and maybe help each other out too, eh!" I don't think that snow covered pic of oops looked like fun.

A truce, no more SC glassers, unless it is a very special case. OK?

Lucas Electric - more like faulty smoke holders. Memories of my old Spitfire. The best bumper sticker I ever saw was on an old MG, it read "The parts falling off this vehicle are of the highest British quality" To bring this back to boating. I hope Lucas didn't supply the marine industry.
