Well Skagen, we'll need a first name and we'll need to know what kind of budget you are looking at. This is where the true bottom feeders (with real bottom feeder budgets) hang. Prolly goot to know what size boat you are on the hunt for too.

Welcome to the Starcraft section man!:)

First name is Seth.
Would love to find something in the 18-22ft range.
I like to be a real bottom feeder and go as cheap as possible. 500 or so would be an easy decision for me. Maybe up to $1,000 for a truly fine specimen.

OK Seth, you are at the tip buddy!

Your location is probably going to be your biggest challenge.

One of the fellas here just sold his rig for something totally crazy like $5K. If memory serves I think he even pulled the outboard off of it. The NE is a tough market.

We have a couple of fellas up your way that might help with the search.

Cheers!

Edit: It was $6K:eek::eek::eek:

Yeah, I might have to wait until I can move out west to get one. Just pick it up on my way cross country.

I think the one for $6k was a once in a lifetime fluke, I think there are some here in the NE for reasonable prices, but I do think jas is right about the bulk of them being in the midwest.

Found this one. Doesn't look to be in the greatest shape. Talked to the owner, he says that it runs and the deck is in good shape. I take that with a grain of salt. Didn't know if any of the starmada lived in the area and would be willing to take a gander at it.

At just over 3.5 hours away, its alittle out of my range. If you find something in the neighborhood, I'd be more than willing to take a look. Good luck with this one, though.

Sometimes we have to remember that the initial cost, which may not be free or nearly free, end up that way based on the entire project. I think the "hunt" is the most exciting part of restoration because of the "deal" being sought. Most sellers don't want to do the work to restore, so they are at a disadvantage to start. I just found two sellers of my O/B in the $1500 range. That is about my current overall investment so far in my 79 SS18.

Sometimes you have to front the money to gain it back and then some. The old addage it takes money to make money.

Now I have the option to get a 1982 great hull of a 16SS with a road ready GALV trailer, no engine for $400. The kind gentleman knowing he has to sell has already pulled the floor and transom. I also found a solid Rude 70hp with PTT and controls for $300, so this project, if I forge ahead would start at $700.

Most times the search does NOT start out at $100 for a free or nearly free Starcraft, because nothing is for free, especially your Time, and then your Money, and what ECON folks call Opportunity Cost!

The HUNT is a nice hobby, ain't it?

Yeah, that's about how far she is away from me, too. I think I can get a better deal than 2k for the boat, though JAS. I'm gonna keep looking, though.

Keep looking Sk. This the time of year the bargains start to pop up. You just have to be ready to pull the trigger quick when you find it. Good luck, buddy.

Yeah, I've emailed the guy for new pics, and I might go up after work one day to check it out. It'd only be a 1 hr drive from work.

That may not be in the 'free or nearly free" range but I tell ya what - that is one clean and original looking Islander!

If she is truly turn key I think that is a very fair price!

Thoroughly check all the corners of of the deck/transom and all around the outdrive.

No rot? Sweeeeeet!

Rot? Chip to bargain with!

Have fun:D

I don't plan on paying asking price. Given that apart from me, there's really no market for starcrafts in the area. I should be able to come in under 2k
