Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

^^^I would think pretty much any CASH would own that boat. I think that boat would be ideal for Mike's motor.

Yah, that guy has mountains of stuff in his yard. Probably 10 boats, 20 OB motors, tractors, stuff, stuff, stuff...

I didn't haggle with him as neither one of us were ready to go down that road (nice guy but he was in his socks so I thanked him and went on my way).

Nice possible match there...and since it comes with the trailer it's no big deal that it is 15' rather than 14'.

I could really see the 35hp Lark on that transom too.

Checking brochures I see that SC currently offer two models of 14' rowboat...rated for exactly 35hp:) Just need to find an old, beat-up hull that's nearly free and just like the new ones.

I'm getting the outboard for $50 and I will be working on it prior to getting a boat to match it too. But if the right one comes along that coud change.

$99! Somebody got a good deal! Hope they swing by iboats and put up a rebuild thread, eh!:)

I logged on to see if it was you! Someone got a good deal for sure. I think you were right to pass on it, an SS will pop up sometime.

I'm starting to get the itch for a 14 footer again. I read somewhere in this thread about HA and a 57 Lark. I love the lark, now I'm really jonesing. I sold the 12 foot flatbottom and the 2.2 merc. I told the wife it was to make room, never said what for.;)

Edit;
OK, I'm caught up on this thread now. That 15' would be pretty good for the Lark. With Jas do the negotiating it would probably run you.......$267.00. You move it.

Yah, my 14 footer did 29 on the gps with a 25 hp tiller. Plenty fast for me! Any faster and I would have wanted to have helm/steering set up yah know.

I am thinking that most of the row/utility style are usually rated at about 25-30 (pretty dern close).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that 15' should be rated to up to 75hp ob. That or its the Redneck in me speakin'.

Jason - 16' Starcraft Super Sport

This thread is an attempt to sort of bring all of those pieces together.

If you are in search of a Starcraft. If you are on a budget... If you don't mind taking a hull that was left for junk or pulling an old forgotten rig out of the weeds and trying to make something out of it... If you might just consider yourself a "bottom feeder"... Than this thread might be for you!

If you would like to help other guys score super deals on rigs that might otherwise find their way to a scrap yard than this thread might be for you too!

I'll keep the list of what we need up at the top here as we see fit.

Let's have some fun and maybe help each other out too, eh!:D

Been following this thread.

Got my 1979 SS18 for a negotiated $1000. Sold the 2 newer seats for $200 dollars. Sold the power anchor for $100. Now at $700. Was able to keep the new Springfield seat hardware when I sold the seats, saved me $150 dollars, down to $550. Not crazy about the trailer, but was offered $250 for it, so now the boat alone can be $300, but $500. The engine is a 79 115hp Inline 6, started right up, has trim tilt, say that is worth $600.

The boat was free, then...................plus $100

Came with a brand new Bimini top($275), a newer working VHF($150 w/antenna), a Humminbird worth about $100, a travel cover in solid shape($100) then you get a FREE Starcraft!!, and then some?

Plus $625, spent about that in the Resto so far, need a better trolling motor and a 2nd FF..................Free Star?? not when you factor in the desire and bug up ur arse labor!!

Well, he was asking $450.

Maybe redneck a little. Wow moma, a 75 on the back of that boat:eek::eek:

Yah man, a free boat is really never free. I am looking for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft to start.

Example...

My Islander, bought it at $450, sold the driveline for $500 = free Starcraft (better than free actually).

(Course, had I kept that OMC Stringer it would have cost me millions to get it running and keep it running:eek: Hardly budget minded)

I am still on the hunt for that 16' SS for the price of a pizza or two! I am in no rush:D

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Roslynn has been eyeballing an Islander for the past few months and I finally got a chance to see it last night.:)

It's on the way to our 5-year-old's school so they get to check it out twice a day and it's a real gem.

She did promise to stop and take some pics but that hasn't happened yet.

I'm interested to see how accurate her description is since she claims it is an outboard model, probably a 22' rig(we didn't stop last night, just drove by and couldn't see the stern).

It's sitting at a farm, and I'd be willing to venture a guess that it has not been listed online for sale at all. This is a very rural area so not much traffic driving by either. This might help me get a better price on the rig.

If it is an outboard model I may be interested in taking a closer look. It does have a sweet SS tower with rod holders above the helm and it's named "Musky Hunter".

I will get some pics eventually, and hopefully see what he's asking for the boat. It's tan and I'd guess it's an early 80s model. Not sure it will be "nearly free" or even "cheap" but interesting to see what he's working with.:D

I am going into this fully expecting a white leg sticking out the transom, but it's a win-win since then the rig would be worth less and give me some bargaining chips.

Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

I was thinking that "eventually" would be today...

What does she look like buddy? Post up some photos, eh!

:D

Well...it's dark by the time I get out of work and my weekends are booked for the next couple weeks. So "eventually" means sometime in 2011:D

Since it's not listed anywhere for sale I'm not worried about it getting bought up anytime soon. I hear December is a good time to buy an Islander, is that right Jason?:p
