Re: The search for a free (or nearly free) Starcraft!

Hopefully I will not upset all of you all but I was given a 1778 I think 18 starchief by my uncle and a StarCraft canoe from my sister's neighbor. Both for $0

I've got about $300 in the StarChief. New Transom, new water pump, and cleaned carbs. Should have the trailer finished by early Dec. and hopefully splash her and have some phics, movies, and performance numbers to share.

ENVEY!!!! But glad for you too..1978 is probably a Chieftain. 1K was a good price for my 74 with a 1990 Rude 90.

Pics please.

Have the feeling the Islander on EBAY may be going for more than i anticipated. Don thanks for the Website! Looks like a great auction tool. So I'm forced to ask the Mrs when a Rig goes for more than my budget. Whats a good excuse for why I NEED this boat guys? She'll no doubt bring up my Lake house Resto.

It keeps me home and out of trouble thus ensuring marriatal bliss and tranquility in the household. I am not under foot and trying to fix things that have not yet broken. It allows her more uninterupted time for her hobbies (reading, sewing, shopping, etc) without my suggestions of what she could 'work' on.
Besides, it makes me happy. It is my outlet.

Hey, it works for me.:D

It's actually a known fact that buying Starcraft boats cures male pattern baldness:D

Ok, I cant use this one. I told her I'm not going bald... Im growing CLEAR HAIR.

Fish... the outlet thing may work. But owning 2 houses that need work and already owning 2 boats and a Mud truck, I may not find validity In the reasoning with my bride.

Maybe I can tell her its a great cure for Menopause and female pattern baldness ?!?!?:D:D

Owning/restoring Starcraft boats;

A) Bonding time with my son
B) Teaching my boy to work with his hands
C) Keeps me around the house
D) When finished, provides hours of pleasure fishing, boating, and general family fun
E) Keeps me out of the bars, thereby avoiding alchoholism and loss of job
F) Keeps me out of the wifes hair promoting marital bliss and avoiding expensive counseling sessions
G) When lifes troubles get to you, working on your boat is theraputic, again avoiding expensive counseling sessions
H) You get a nearly new boat for a fraction of the price of new
I) A contant source of pride knowing you did it yourself, this promotes a sense of well being, lowering blood pressure.

I have saved myself at least $237,000 and added 2-1/2 years to my life. This is just in one year of ownership! Figures don't lie.

Yah, that is a beauty! I have emailed that fella back and forth a little.

Here is my problem...

Just picked up a $3400 bill for a new transmission on my wife's van:eek::eek::mad::mad:

I am toast.

Not only will I not be picking up another boat any time soon but I am selling off everything in sight to make that payment.

I am really glad that I have just about everything I need to complete my Islander. So that is a good thing.

I'll be shoveling my gigantic driveway by hand this year - no tractor.

Well rats!!!

Yah dood, definitely hurts the cause!

Wife drives a 06 Honda Odyssey with just over 100,000 miles. Why the heck am I buying a new transmission at this stage? I was banking on the idea that I wouldn't have to do any major work for a long time on this van. Grumble, grumble.

Ah well, I have no reason to complain these days!:D

Suprised the Honda needs a tranny after only 100,00. Tell her not to rev in N and pound it into D anymore.:p

I got my wife a Freestar in 04, looked at the Odyssey real hard. Then Ford handed me $6000 when I bought the van! Got it for $18000 and some change, NEW. Other than eating brakes and calipers it's been pretty good. 65,000 miles and running strong.

Wife got t-boned coming home from work. The van held up good and saved her from major injuries. The 5 star crash rating payed off.

Sorry for your loss. Next year maybe.

Good deal on the wreck protection there Don!

Yah, having to come up with that much cash in a flash is way rough on my budget.

I was hoping to have a river boat for the walleye opener in the spring but it looks like the spring of 2012 will have to do, eh!:D

Sorry to hear about the tranny bill...I paid $1700 for a rebuild on my '99 Explorer a few years back and thought that was painful:eek:
