used up the old flocote which was 12 months old (not bad shelf life)
Will go to a high gloss seagull grey colour flocote on final floor coating when motor is removed

picked up 4* 16x7" alloys ford stud pattern (114.3mm *5) for $60,
used hole saw to open up inner bore from 50mm to 65mm to clear the trailer hubs
Polished them up, now riding on 215/R65./16C light truck tyres.
Have 2 spares will be fitted to trailer

played around adjusting cable to get the gearbox into reverse
16' cable is a little too long, so will use this on the throttle shifter instead
Order another 33C 13' heavy duty cable for crash box shifter

I'm concerned wont flow sufficient water coming through the water intake clam shell grate
although I calculated the surface area of the 1.25" dia hose, ball valve and its approx. 800mm2, and claim grate is 1200mm2 However thinking of removing some of the casting to increase grate opening by 25%
as concerned wont get water and will be sucking air, not good for sea pump
The exterior water pickup on hull is 16" from transom and 6" off centre
each slit in clam grate is 2.3mmx75mm long*7 slits

remember, when the boat is moving, your forcing water into the intake.

I'm wondering whether thats actually the case at high speeds, or whether the water skims across the bottom of the hull and over the intake?

if you did anything you could round the edges of intake and deburr them and round the square corners , that would smooth transition and make sure to never cause un needed turbulence but that's even getting crazy :)

so if water flow is sufficient how does one control pressure, and where is this controlled
I'm assuming before heat exchanger
does anyone know what the ideal pressure should be?

one does not control pressure. the impeller in a raw water pump can push a maximum of about 20-30psi

the heat exchanger will never see that unless you close off the outlet. heat exchanger pressure is really low, even though the heat exchangers will handle significantly higher pressures on both the tube and shell side. in a boat, it will never see the pressure it would in a similar industrial application, so there is absolutely no need to worry about pressure.

you ARE over-thinking it.

open system cannot build pressure unless there is a blockage it is more about slowing flow down to allow heat transfer and that is usually engineered into exchanger design. The closed part can build pressure as with cars but usually its only to a certain point and then you have cap that releases it.

according to known local boat racer, I may have installed the water pickup not close enough to transom, and if boat gets moving and riding on transom quite possible it may suck air

at present the water pickup is 400mm from transom and offset of centre by 160mm

I had a look over weekend and it would be possible to move the water pickup just inside the transom between transom and the Z-drive cross member which would place the water pickup 120mm from transom

Alternative move to transom water pickup

For now will sleep on it, as plenty time before need to finalise which way to go

Cleaned out engine oil cooler (3"x 21" long),
made brackets up to locate the cooler to top of stringer rail
Will most probably transfer it to the other side of the boat as it will be closer to the remote oil filter mount on engine block
This will give more clearance on the starboard stringer for the sea strainer relocation to the rear of the transom
