Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

I am going to be looking at a 70 Johnson this weekend for the Jupiter

Bob, I think the 3 cylinder 70/75's are the ideal motor for these boats. Great power-to-weight ratio. As you can see mine sits a bit heavy in the stern with the V4 on it.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Look up the weights and you will be slightly surprised...... The 65-70 are usually at 268 lbs and the V-4 come in at 301 lbs...... so.... relocate your battery and fuel tank forward and it should even it out.

Hi. I'm a new 1972 Starcraft owner. The boat is in real good shape,I was thinking of putting a short deck in the bottom of the boat. So I can stand and cast with out being on an angle. It's a V bottom boat ,Aluminum and 14' long. Any thoughts would be great .Thanks nowakeanimal

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

I am going to start a thread covering my 1978 Starcraft American 15 one of these days! I have a lot, lot of work into her and she is worth every second of it. I introduced a lot of people to the water with that thing... Seems the fiberglass starcrafts are very rare, I definitly prefer the look of the fiberglass more.

Hey you crazy kids.

I did some reading following all you guys in your progress before I picked up a 77 Starcraft Holiday 18 i/o. You definately show all the possibilities with these old boats.

I have it gutted right now with the new deck going in next week...I hope. I worked today under a tarp pulling up the floor as it snowed on me.

I'll start a thread listing all the madness along the way.

BTW We should do an annual Vegas trip to go over technical boat related questions in person. Take the armada on the road...minus the boats. :)

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

I just HAD to check in on this thread. I have a 1963 Jet (I think). She's 16' of wonderful that used to be a garbage bin for the P/O. Stripped her down, built a new deck, gave her fresh paint topside (hull to come) and put her on the water after 16 years of sitting in the AZ sun. Still haven't put seats in yet (bloody expensive new...can't find used yet), but have cleaned up all the electrical and got the Johnson 40 running strong (1961 Seahorse). She gets up on plane in half a second.

I LOVE this boat! :D

Hey StarCraft Tony what year is your boat? Is the bow light on your boat battery operated? D-cell? I have one on my 64 14ft Dart. Other than yours mine is the only one I have seen. I have new seats and transom in mine so far. Hope to have it in the water by the end of the month.

SWEET lil SC WesMason

Thank you. Can't say enough about these boats. There is so much you can do with and to them. I'll have to post a picture of us on the water. When I rig it for fishing it completely changes the boat.

Here's a question for the crowd: Since this boat is old enough to be outside of a HP rating...what do you all think is the optimum HP for a 15-16'r?

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Send North Beach a message..... he has a 1965 brochure scanned in and if you measure your transom (width) you can probably match it up really close. I will bet it is 50-60 hp w/o looking it up.

My 1966 15'r is rated at 85 hp.

Re: STARCRAFT OWNERS Check in

Hi guys,
I'm new to the forum, after reading some of your stories I had to share mine...

In Jan. of this year I met this guy who was telling me about this boat he has and how it's gave him nothing but problems, long story short the boat has been submerged underwater, and needs some serious work. So I got a hold of the guy on mothers day and I asked him if I could look at the boat if he still wanted to get rid of it. Long story short again.... I get to the storage building and I find a 1973 Starcraft Chieftain Mark IV, powered by a 140hp straight 6 mercruiser engine.... Thats when he tells me the bad news, he never drained the water outta the crankcase and never did any winterization to it snd it has been in storage now for 2yrs. He said he would take 300 bucks for the boat and trailer and I offered him 200.....He took it. So I took the boat home and on the first day of new ownership my dad and I changed the oil (which had about a gallon of water in it). Got new plugs in it wires cap and points and condenser and I put a new coil on it....
We rolled the motor over to see if the thing had any fuel pressure, it does so we continue to roll the motor over and the motor starts right up. Now after I've run it a little bit the motor doesn't even really roll over one complete time and she fires right up. I've got a little bit more cleaning to doon it but I'll get some pictures of her up on here.
Thanks
Ben
