I would then almost own a boat like my username.... shoot, an email of inquiry was just sent from my account. .. oops ;) Might sell the AC to fund it... nothing like following our illustrious example in trading up! :)

Called the gentleman from Bloomington IN, about the $900 Chieftain. The trailer may be good for long distances, but he wasn't sure - said that he has only used it for short distances in the last few years. Seems like an honest guy.

GA I was thinking of the corrosion on my AC when I said not bad.. but yeah there does look like some damage. Probably woud need to see it in person to determine how bad it is :(

I kinda figure if the seller mentions corrosion, it ain't good. Personal up close viewing needed for sure. Pics don't always tell the story.

Yeah, good lord, with what some people have found on boats without visible damage, I can't friggin' imagine how bad ones with already visible corrosion would be.

This is a most dangerous thread, and should be avoided... now im tempted to buy the big hard top!! ;) $900 does not seem to be bad for her with a tandem trailer. I

Now shes $600 obo... I have a great running boat as it is, but she sure is purdy... and very cheap! A hard top would be cool.. but a 24' cc would be sweeeeeeeeet. Ive never tried my hand at rehabing a I/O though. And I love speed, sounds like with the 188hp she only goes 30 flat out

1974 Starcraft 24' cabin cruiser

I think a 188 is a Ford 302 (distributor in front), which means NO marine parts.

Yeah, its the Ford 302 so likely I would be looking at a repower. But it might be worth tinkering to see if I could revive it. But at the suggestion of the Admiral.... road trip tomorrow! $400 plus the cost of diesel is just tooooooooo sweet!! ;)

I am sure you can still get ford 302 marine parts, what you can't get is brand new ford marine engines. You could get a 302 engine block and rebuild it with marine parts (head gasket, cam, waterpump and such) you can still get new manifolds and such.
I am keeping my eye on a 25' starcraft with a 188 in it. I am about ready to call the guy and see how firm he is on the price. My plan for repower would be a chevy 4.3 v-6. I think the outdrive might work with the v-6 190hp vs. v-8. If not SEI makes a new outdrive as long as the transom assembly is good.
