Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

That's in most cases the more expensive route.

See, if you score a nasty glasser for say, $2K, sell the trailer for say $500. You'd be into the engine for roughly $1500. To rebuild an old one would be about the same (or more).

Here's the difference...

That nasty glasser will also have an outdrive, complete transom assembly, steering controls, throttle controls, windshield, fittings, fuel tank, gauges, bow rails, yadayada....

That old tired motor won't come with any of that! Moreover, to complete the driveline (outdrive, transom assembly, controls) you'd easily be at the $3K mark.

So ya, in most cases, the donor route is the best.

The exception: Many times a guy who neglects his boat hull will also be neglecting his driveline. And there's the trick. Finding the trashed plastic hull with the solid heart for little cheddar$.
here you go.....rebuilt outdrive!!!! maxum 255 scr all new outdrive engine 1991 need to move by sat price reduces f

Re: Starcraft on C-list/ebay!

the "another beat up boat" sitting in the yard for a year

One day, stripped and hauled to the dump.

saving of parts you will never use

Nah, throw away what you aren't going to use.

all the work needed to make a trailer WORTH $500,

Nah, you sell the trailer for what it's worth - sure as heck don't build it to be worth something.

and in the end you QUESTION the motors actual condition has to have a "cost" that needs to be figured in.

Yah, it's pretty hard to buy a "sure thing". 5 minutes on pretty much any forum here on iboats will tell you that. Even factory fresh brand new boats sometimes have issues.

But, there are no doubt things a fella can do to improve his chances.

usually you get the outdrive on a motor for sale....

Nope, not usually. That would be the extreme exception. And you'd never find a complete engine, outdrive, transom assembly, controls outside of a donor boat.

Trust me on this one bob. Click on the links in my signature and you'll see a methodical bottom feeder repowering his boats for pennies on the dollar.;)

That could be a little far for me. Plus that engine looks like crap. Trailer is nice!

Psst, GA.... Aren't you supposed to be keeping bad stuff from happening to SC tin down round Atlanta way?

1971 Star Craft 15.5 starfire Alum, Speed Boat - $2800

Perhaps I'm wrong, but a whole heck of a lot of that added woodwork looks PT to me...
Esp the stuff under & around the gas tank:

And it's raw, no finish at all. :blue: I haven't decided about the yellow yet. Not sure it's accurate on my monitor... But w/ the red??? :faint2:

I didn't see an SC Starfire tinny in the 1971 brochure....

And on the factory tin, the red is a good choice for the carpet. W/ the almost pee yellow that boat is on my computer, not so much...

Yeah they liked the yellow in the 70's, it looks like my Nova was black tho, even found another like it (same year and 15ft) that was also black with red int.

Well, I was sneaking into a Corps park to do some illicit shutdown fishing and saw these brand new benches that must have been delivered and the locked gates made the delivery guy drop them there. I put then in a tinny for safe keeping until the shutdown was lifted - Any minute now, finally.. I didn't know the Starfire was for sale.

None of this true. :D Except the shutdown part. Over for now, maybe my regular ramp will return to normal when all the Corps rampers go back to their home ramp. Yippee!!!!!
