If it's close enough might be worth going to look, and talk with current owner about he got along towing it.

Funny the 1978 Brochure doesn't list the Chieftain Express, they show a picture of one in the (cutaway) how it's constructed page, but no specs.

I was closed to buy 25' Chief MarK (1976).
But weight certificate show 5600lb ( boat and original trailer). Tank empty...
I can tow only 5000lb.:grumpy:
Brochure 1976 said 2570(boat) + 715(165Merc)=3285lb
So, 2315lb is a trailer?

Don't think 1978 Express will be lightly.

More negotiation ammo, though, with that Stringer Drive a fella would need to do some major arm twisting to bring that asking price down.

The buyer would need to have major guts to take on a OMC to Merc transplant!

(Or just plane loonie:crazy:)

This was for sale in the fall for way less money...I think $800 no motor or trailer if I recall correctly. But, yeah, that color choice doesn't do the resale value any favors.
