Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Spent the last week or so epoxying the wood. Its a very time consuming process.

The clamps I bought did not have a strong clamp at all. So I improvised. I took the 2 pieces of wood I had planned on using for the side panels in the boat, put the transom between that with the epoxying on each side, then set 12 bags of wood pellets, each 40lbs. Then to add a little more weight, I added a foldable ladder. It looks like that did the trick but Im letting it "clamp" for a little longer to ensure its stuck together!

I Will try to get some pictures up.

The transom wood is together! Forever! I forgot to take pictures of my set up...of course I realized it as soon as I had taken everything off.

All thats left to epoxy is one side of the floor boards, all of the transom, and then I have to stain the dash.

The snow is interfering with my plans though...

As the bow rubrail cap?
$_57.JPG

$_57.JPG

It's shown w/ dimensions, I suspect it won't be the right angle, and much longer then the previous 1. It's for a 19ft+/- Holiday, not a 15ft+/- Jet...

For $40+/- is it worth the risk? Could always relist it I suppose or sell it to a mob member who might need it...............

The measurements of where the bow cap was isn't that big maybe it is worth a shot...I haven't heard back from someone who says they have one in a while

Il hold off and keep looking.

So if anyone was wondering what happened to the Starcraft Emblems that were posted in the Starcraft Part forums, I may or may not have purchased those...alright I Did! I was holding my Emblems by one end when all of a sudden, it broke... So I decided I should get those.

There is a crack that has seperated part of it. Any ideas on how to glue it back on?

Thanks,
BB

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Sorry for the lack of updates, it corresponds well to the lack of progress so far. I am out of town so havent been able to do anything. I have been prepping the hull for paint for the past week or so. Ive been sanding with the 150grit as the paint says. When do I know if ive sanded enough?

When painting, do I need to thin the paint?

And my last question, does anyone have an ideas on how to fix the cracked emblem?

Thanks,

BB

What paint system are you using? Is the emblem Pot Metal or plastic? Is the hull bare metal or still have paint on it? I looked back thru your thread but you've posted very few pics.:blue:

I have decided on the Rustoleum Topside Paint and Metal Primer.

The emblem is plastic.

The hull has paint left over in almost all spots.

I will try to post more pictures. I have taken them on my phone, its a lengthy process to them transfer them to the computer and then upload them. I will make it my goal to post more!

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

If you're able, I like to email myself the pix just about when I take them. That way when I get to a computer, the pix should be available. Getting them to photobucket is often a challenge, but since they added the drag & drop feature to the main screen of each photobucket folder, it is much easier.

Time consuming yes, but much better as questions arise & you'll almost always wait much longer for technical advise/assistance when there are no pix to aid in the assessment.

I have decided on the Rustoleum Topside Paint and Metal Primer. You can use regular Rustoleum Professional. No need for the extra expense of the Topside Paint.

The emblem is plastic. I'd use Super Glue GEL to Glue it back together.

The hull has paint left over in almost all spots. If you want it to look smooth and Nice then you're prolly gunna need to use a High Build Primer. Make sure and use a Self Etching Primer on any bare spots. Just a light coat is required.

This link..."Paint Your Boat for Under $100 Bucks...Well Almost" should have some helpful info for you

What kind of Phone are you using? I have the Photobucket app on my iPhone and it works quite well for me.

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Woodonglass: I already ordered the paint, otherwise I would have ordered the professional. Anything to save a money while keeping high quality work. For the primer, it is the marine metal primer. Will that work to create a smooth finish? For the bare spots, should I get a self etching primer and apply this primer on top to allow for unity or just apply this primer on bare spots, marine metal primer on the painted spots and paint?

Hopefully, that isnt too confusing. I will also look into the photobucket app.

Thanks,

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

BARE aluminum needs ZC or SE paint 1st.

Then prime everything w/ the primer you bought.

Top coat w/ the Rusto you bought

Prep prep prep and between every coat of any paint

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

JBC is correct. Without the use of High Build primer the wrinkles and edges of the previous paint job will "Bleed" through to the New Paint Job so be prepared to "SEE" that. Other than that everything will work just fine.

Oh, I might also add, I'd also recommend adding the hardener. It really adds to the Gloss and the durability of the paint. Makes it cure and harden faster too!!!!;)

Re: Starcraft Jet Star 15 Restore

Put the first coat of primer down yesterday. Went to put the second coat down today, it was raining. So to avoid this situation in the future, I made my own paint booth in the garage. It isnt as spacious as I thought it would be, but it works! Well I think it does, I'll find out tomorrow when I go to prime it. I may create a little contraption that allows me to wheel the boat in and out of the garage so I can paint outside and enjoy the nice 60-70 degree weather.

When putting down coat one, I used alot more primer than predicted. I used the whole can...so I plan on using the whole can tommorow as well. That means I will be ordering more tonight. I am assuming that I will need the 2 cans of White Topside paint for the hull. So in tonights order, I will be ordering 2 cans of the amazingly beautiful Rustoleum Primer and Most likely Two Cans of the White Paint. Better safe than sorry right?

On a side note, I am starting to look at the engine again. I have compression tested each cylinder and they are around 9-10 (trying to remember exact numbers). This seemed very low to me but when I looked at the service manual for the engine that I had purchased, it says it should be right around there. With both cylinders there, I think im doing pretty good! Hopefully, when I turn the key tomorow, the engine cranks! I do have starter fluid Carb Cleaner, so between the new spark plugs, new gas, new oil, starter fluid, carb cleaner, elbow grease, and anything else I may find useful, this engine will start! I will try to get a video of it.

Here are pictures of the "paint booth" and 1st coat of primer.

Thinking ahead, I have decided I will need some lights on the boat for when/if I am out at night cruising around. I have decided LEDS would be great if I could find them cheap. I did just that. On Ebay I found Waterproof LED Lights that customize to 12 different colors form a wireless remote. I realize that I don't need the customizable feature but I love the ability to change the colors and its my boat so I bought it. LED Lights

I am still looking for 3 13" 5 lug trailer tires so anybody that knows where to get them at a very good price, I would really appreciate it if you send me a PM. I am also looking for a bow cap so please, if you have any leads on where I could get one, it would be much appreciated if you sent me information.

This update keeps getting longer and longer so Im gonna stop it here. Thanks everyone on the help so far. Lets get this boat ready for summer :)

Have a good evening

How are you applying the paint? Are you thinning it at all?
