Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

VH & Sasto---

Just wanted to give you a heads up on a couple of items prior to going from St. Augustine to Jax.

1) Check out the map I attached. *Let me know if you don't get it*. When leaving and approaching the Municipal Marina, you have to follow the channel markers very closely. It will seem like you are heading out the inlet prior to changing course. Heading North from the marina, go under the Bridge of Lions, start heading North East as if you're heading thru the inlet, then your course correction to North will come at the last marker. Pay special attention to the markers and give them a bit of room. There is NO WATER outside the markers at low tide.

2) North of Old Town and south of Jax are a couple of little towns named Palm Valley and Pointe Vedre. The river is no wake thru there and the markers are positioned pretty far toward the eastern shore. Favor these markers depending on the tide. There is NO WATER on the western edge at low tide. You shouldn't have much problem here as you can trim up. I can't. But the scenery is great. Beautiful homes and friendly people. Start practicing your parade wave!

Can't wait to meet up. I'm starting to get excited about this trip!

ONLY 17 MORE DAYS TILL DEPARTURE!!

I said I "need" an intervention. I clearly have no intention of actually looking into it! Recognition of a problem is the first step to recovery. Whether or not I choose to take the second step is still up in the air. Every person subscribes to their own belief system...

...and right now, I believe I'll have a cocktail!! :D

Sounds to me like your cured... Yep, no intervention necessarry on my part since you won't be looking for an intervention.;) There'll be no intervention for me to intervene.:p

Well...it looks like we're gonna have something else to do! I just scored a deal on a '96 Sea Doo GTX. Freshly rebuilt engine and less than 5 hours on it. Seems to run real well. I really don't have much interest in them, but the Admiral wanted it. We're going to tow it around with us as a tender, so it will be in St. Augustine with us!

Nice, Fireman....I've never owned one and may never will, but one of the finest rides I've ever been on was on a jet flea thru the swamps in South Florida. Good to have a dingy!

See ya soon.

Earlier the better!

I'm leaving here on the 16th and have alot to do before then. This time of the year is usually not busy for me. Not much sportfishing going on or boats to look after 'cause everybody went back north. Have my main boat here and will be making a trip to Palm Beach the day after returning from St. Augustine. Then a couple days prep and a trip to SC for the summer.

Heck, I don't know.....things change like the weather down here, rain one minute and sunshine the next.

See ya bouys and gulls soon!

I took Friday off, and I think my wife is taking a half day, so we should be there in the afternoon.

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

Gonna be starting this voyage one day later than previously mentioned. We'll be arriving on the 15th instead of the 14th. The extra day prior to departure will be good, though. I still have to install the Neutra-Salt system and hook up my duel battery switch and additional battery. I've been working insane hours. Havn't had time to get much of anything done. My last night at work will be the 11th. Until then, I have only one night off, and I'm on call that night.

This is going to be one long awaited and well deserved vacation!!! Can't wait to meet everyone!!!

I was thinking (sometimes a bad thing ) veritas honus. A couple options we have about the trip to and from Jacksonville. We can tow your boat with my vehicle to J-Ville, make the trip to St. Augustine and retrieve it later. I also have a good friend in J-Ville and you can leave your boat there for a couple days and we can retrieve the trailer later. Just a thought....your the captain.

Where is Fireman staying in J-Ville? Where do we meet you at?

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

I know you have talked about how to get through the St Augustine area, here is some information I just saw on BoatUS forum;

Quote"Shoaling Again in Two Florida Inlets:
St. Augustine Inlet:
Due to the shifting shoal St Augustine Inlet Buoy 6 has been established in position 29-54-44.784N 081-16-54.191W to mark best water. All mariners are advised to exercise caution while transiting the area. (7th District LNM 21)
Due to shoaling on the south side of the channel St Augustine Inlet Temporary LB 5A has been changed to 5B position 29-54-44.830N 081-16-36.786W. And a Temporary BUOY 5A has been established in position 29-54-48.338N 081-16-22.501W. All mariners are advised to exercise caution while transition the area. (7th District LNM 19)
Ponce De Leon Inlet:
Shoaling has been reported in the vicinity of Ponce De Leon Inlet Buoy 7A (LLNR 9543). The shoal encroaches 15 yards channel ward with a depth of 6 feet. Ponce De Leon Inlet TEMP Buoy 8A has been relocated to position 29-04-29.336N 080-55-22.262W to mark best water due to shoaling. All mariners are advised to exercise caution while transiting the area. (7th District LNM 21)" Quote

This will probably have on effect on us at the marina dock, I have not read it either, it also comes from BoatUS forums;

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

Sasto--not sure where we're gonna meet up. I guess it depends how far we make it the day before. I would like to get to the Landings before night, but not sure if that's pushing it. I plan to be under power first thing in the morning, so it would also depend how far we are when you guys either drive & launch or motor up. Either way, I'll have my phone with me and I have your numbers. Let's say you come up by boat...just call when you get into the SJR and I'll be able to let you know where we are along the way. I can text you the GPS coordinates to punch in.

nlain--the shoaling in St. Augustine is just outside the inlet. Shouldn't be an issue as long as we stay in the ditch on the ride down. The ocean is constantly changing the form of the entrance to the inlet and they put out those Notices to Mariners until the inlet gets dredged or they can change the markers. There shouldn't be any issues regarding the marina & docking, but I will call TowBoat/SeaTow or the marina when we get closer to gather the newest local knowledge. Thanks for the info.

Ok... Maybe it's me, and there's something I'm just not getting... I'm failing to understand the thought process behind these options. You say that your thinking is sometimes a bad thing... Nah!!!:) I'm finding this rather amusing.:p

You say we can tow my boat with your vehicle to J-ville, and retrieve it later. Why would we tow my boat to J-ville just to leave it there and then retrieve it later??? OK, you're talking about retrieving your vehicle later.;) You also have a good friend in J-ville and I can leave the boat there for a couple days and retrieve the trailer later???

This was the original thought: I'll already have my slip at the St Augustine Municipal Marina. Take off from there and meet up with Fireman on the water off Jax. At that point, either tie my boat off and join Fireman and family for a meet and greet cruise while towing my boat with his, or have our meet and greet and boat back with both boats under power. Now that he'll be towing a "jet-flea" as a tender, I would think that the best thing to do would be to have our meet and greet, and cruise back with both boats under power. The beauty of all this is the day on the boat/boats, traveling on these (new to me) waters, meeting up with new friends, and traveling back again, with the bonus of familiarization of the area. Well now, the ante has been upped with the added bonus of You and Kimi joining us in St Augustine, first a day early, now two!!! (if you arrive on the 16th)

Where Fireman is staying in Jax... I don't recall whether or not he'd mentioned mooring up, or staying in a hotel. Either way, we've all got each others cell numbers. Please call me when you and Kimi arrive in St Augustine. We'll meet up and "Let the Good Times Roll!":D

Sorry sasto, never really answered your last question... Don't know where we'll meet up, but again, please call when you arrive in St Augustine (or when you're almost there). We'll make a plan then. Sound good?

Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

VH...I reread Sasto's post and I think (I think?) he meant splash the boat in Jax, leave the tow vehicle & trailer at his friend's house, and boat to St. Augustine. The do the reverse to pick it up.

We will be on the boat that Thursday night. No hotel. As far as returning, we can do both. The SJR is extremely wide up there. Drop the jet flea off the back of my tub, and tie your boat off on a bridle to the back and tow it behind. The ski can go behind your boat on a tender lead, about 20' back. We'll be cruising slowly thru there, so no banging around to worry about. Meet & greet on my boat until we're ready to enter the ICW, then we'll split up and motor to Old Town. At least, that's one option...I'm open to anything.

ONLY 13 DAYS TILL DEPARTURE! (THAT'S LESS THAN 2 WEEKS, FOLKS!!!)

That's right, Fireman. That's my hillbilly talk and thinking going on there. Was just a thought to give veritas honus an option. I'm up for anything!
