5200 is great stuff but not for laminating wood. Not at all. Use epoxy resin (if you happen to have it on hand anyway cuz that's what you're sealing your wood with), or Titebond like Wood said, or Gorilla Glue or PL Premium.

Yep, if you're gunna use Epoxy elsewhere then go ahead and get it and use it for laminating the transom. If you wanna use something else to seal the transom then the TBIII will be fine. Lot's of options.

Re: Slow Rebuild of Grandfathers 1972 Starcraft Holiday

I have a 3/4" piece on the outside of my transom ......... That exterior piece acts and a vibration absorbent for the outboard. The plywood ones seen to be the most effective. Diamond plate will work and so will starboard but the wood absorbs the vibration best on the aluminum hull. I have tried all three ;)

Also, I'm ready to glue the transom together as well. People recommend pl or 3m 5200?

I used epoxy and I cheated ....... I shot a handfull of stainless steel screws in to act as clamps and buried them into the laminates.......left them there and sealed over the screw heads too.

Re: Slow Rebuild of Grandfathers 1972 Starcraft Holiday

A little progress. I removed the splash well, stripped the back of the transom and started to prep everything for some real work. Also, been giving a lot of "Cah" rides after I finally squeezed in putting up a privacy fence. So, my original title is holding true. The boat is on the bottom of the list, but I NEED to have it splash ready by next June. So, updates should be coming. Should have removed the splash well a long time ago.

I think at least three 4 x 8 sheets of 2" along with your 1" sheet. Decide after you get some installed before buying more. You can find all kinds of places for additional flotation. - Grandad

Re: Slow Rebuild of Grandfathers 1972 Starcraft Holiday

thanks grandad and xeoro! I have purchased all flooring materials and got 3 of pieces cut out and I even was able to squeeze in some stripping time. I went with the 3/4" arauco plywood for the floor ad marine ply for the transom, which is also glued together and ready for epoxy. I was able to strip the stern and all the topside. The bow piece is pitted and corroded pretty bad from gramps days on the salt, should be salvageable. Also, I got a little help from Bob.

Quick update, I have the boat back in the water! Just did a week vacation on lake dunmore. Fishing was slow, but the boat ran perfectly! Bump starts and cruised easy at 25 MPH with 5 adults in it.
