Sam, not sure if it was the Air Compressor Direct site or not, but one site I was on I read about longevity of hours each compressor was built to run. And those numbers were really interesting to see. Of course like everything, the more expensive types were built to run for very long numbers of hours. I know my Campbell Hounsfield has run for a long long time. If it stops tomorrow, I really can't complain. I've used that thing for ever, and I have to admit, I have never ever changed oil in it either.

Also, if you get one and it is really loud, they do make input mufflers for them. I did buy and install one on mine. Otherwise there is no conversation when it is running in the shop. It still is noisy, but not all that bad with the inlet muffler installed. JMHO!

Sam, I did the whole GT with this one....got it at TSC about 10 years ago. It struggled to run a DA, but everything else was fine. I am ashamed to say I have never changed the oil either...

My H/F compressor is about the same size as yours Cor .. I have had it for a few years now and I did change the oil the first time this last spring ... Just want to upgrade for future projects .. I think I will give the one I have now to my SIL when I do ...

I have one similar to Cor's Funny thing I figured about horse power is the labeling is deceptive. My Campbell Husfield like Cor's is 5 HP and about 6 CFM, Runs a DA but you have to sand, wait.....wait, sand. My IR is 5 HP also, you can run the DA as long as you want. When I was researching the IR I figured out there is running HP and peak HP. My CH is 5 HP peak, the IR is 5 HP running and 11.5 HP peak. Which explains the fact that the IR puts out more double the CFM!

So Sam, we are all chopping at the bit here! When are you going to pull the trigger on the AC?

Oh yeah and about the boat? :D

Actually the only true way to make cross the board comparisons is to use the CFM @ 90 for them. Anything other then that doesn't work across the brands. My compressor is a Campbell Hausfield brand stating 4.5HP, and that doesn't even come close to true 4.5HP ratings. It is all a forest and numbers game. So the only real way is actual CFMs at a certain air PSI pressure. Then you're comparing apples to apples...I mean CFMs to CFMs.

Pulled the trigger on the big yellow one with the obnoxious stickers ... 19.4 at 90 should give more than enough air supply hopefully ..;)
Gunna get with my electrician buddy at work and make sure I run all the correct wiring for it . It's gunna be a pretty long distance from the panel to the unit if I can just make up my mind where I want it ... Prolly need to pour a pad for it .. I think I will do the series of vertical pipe with multiple drain valves at the bottom of the loops type of piping installation ... May have to put the boat on hold for a bit ... I've got a large hunny do list I need to get to for the Admiral ... :pout:

Whats the eta on its delivery? Plenty of time for concrete pad and electrical work?

Okay Sam, Being how I also need a nice larger compressor if I really want to run a IR 6" DA sand correctly, how about buying a long air hose so I can tap in to your new one...okay? :applause: :hail: :clap2:

Well I only have about 100 ft of airline so without making a trip to H/F this should be enough Air Supply to run your DA .

any thoughts on hard piping permanent distribution? I have been looking at options for the hanger, pvc, copper, black pipe and the rapid air system....makes my head spin, everyone seems to have an opinion. black pipe rust, copper is expensive, PVC can rupture in a bad way, however I think failure would be rare given the 450 psi working pressure for 1". I like the rapid air system, but it is pricey and the 3/4" tubing looks like a bear to work with. I also looked at pex, but it only has a working load of 160 psi.

Do you know what the psi rating is for the orange pvc they use for sprinkler systems are ... I have read don't use pvc . Metal pipe down here would be gone in no time ... Copper would be great but very costly ...
My electrician buddy at work said he has some extra wire laying around that he's gunna give me to hook it up with .. :joyous:
That will save a buck or two ....

Sam, I imaging that the wire is going to be at least 10/4 gauge wire for that compressor. And dual breakers for the 230 volt setup. So any time you can have the wire given to you, that is a huge issue. Glad for you. :thumb:

Once you do get in up and running, post your results so we all can be jealous. One day I will do the same thing in my shop as well. JMHO!
