No not the wire itself, the connections/splices.
Most runs wont have splices since youre running all new wiring, but if you end up needing one you can just twist the ends together and tape them. (liquid tape would be better) Its not "proper ettiquette" by perfectionists, but works for me for the time being. Most of the wiring is high and dry under the dash and gunwales anyway, and none of the 20 year old wiring that was there when I bought the boat had any issues of corrosion done this way.
