This is one of the corner base cushions for the bow seating, thus its somewhat odd shape.

This cushion went together fairly well, So, maybe I'm coming up to speed.

Here are a few pictures, of the foam base, the skin after sewing, and the final results.

Quick Update . . .

I have finished the base cushions for all of the seating. So, progress-wise I have 19 out of 32 (+-) pieces done.

There are 3 skins that ended up in the 'reject pile' due to various mishaps during sewing. Most notably was the top-stitching mishap on one of the bow cushions, where the vinyl bunched up causing a pucker.

Not too noticeable from a distance . . .

But up close an eye sore. . .

So, I re-made the skin with better results.

This is the only base piece that has a french seam (joining the 2 gray panels), and I wanted it to be as perfect as possible.

Onto the backrests, which will feature some of the red vinyl, some more french seams, and the embroidered 'CY' logos.

A question for those following along . . .
I am doing the first of the red backrest pieces and There is top-stitching as well as a french seam.

The original colors were gray vinyl with black thread. Now that I will have red vinyl, I am wondering what the best color thread to use with it.

My choices are
- BLACK
- RED
- Light GRAY

In searching the web - I have seen a lot of red thread used with black vinyl, but none of the opposite. Mostly I see either a red or light colored thread used with red vinyl.

Thoughts?

I tend to agree . . . red. That way there is no contrast to worry about.
.
Here is the rough vinyl skin of the first red piece, with CY logo. The thread sample is there as well, but does not show up very well in the picture.

I figured on waiting until I decided on a top-stich color.

I'll chime in that I'm currently a fan of the black. I kind of like the lines it makes in the red vinyl.

Put me in the black camp. You're going through all that trouble with the stitching, make it stand out to show your craftsmanship.

Thanks for your additional input . . . now we have a tie

Here is my rendering of what each color may look like

I'm leaning towards RED so as not to have too much contrast, as I will be adding contrasting thread elsewhere. I think the red vinyl and the CY logo is probably enough 'bling' in the backrest.

Oh did I mention changing thread color on the sewing machine is starting to get old?
 🤪
.
I won't be back at it until next weekend, so I have time for final decision.

I still like the black ... but it's not like the red looks bad. I just like the black a little better for some texture. I don't care for the grey at all.

LOL ... I'm crackin' up: can't really afford a 33' boat, but I can afford an opinion on your 33' boat :p

I guess I'll be the lone voice favoring white. The red looks nice, too. Not a big fan of the black.

The light Grey looks the most intentional, and compliments the embroidering.
Red looks like you didn't know how to hide the stitching.
Black might work elsewhere, but in the examples above, it seems like a miss-match. There is no other black in the design.

Thanks for the comments so far, everyone.

Since posing the question, I have thought to browse the Internet for pictures of the 'Black Diamond Edition' of the CY 328, which were produced by Cruisers Yachts in the 2014 time frame, the introductory year of the boat (see below). This is the 'look' that I am aiming towards with a few slight variations.

BW_05-2014_Cruisers_03.jpg

I have not found very many good resolution pictures of the red backrest sections, but of what I've found, it looks like there was a combination of red and black thread used in the red sections.

- RED for the border stitching of the red panels and
- BLACK for the french seam across the top.

I may go with this approach since it would match the black stitching of the gray vinyl where it needed to and blend with the red vinyl elsewhere.

Having so many colors sure gets complicated. 🤪
