Thanks Arch...keep in mind, $3,000 in boat dollars equates to $300 in normal dollars ;)

Yes tablet.....correct, you just had to engrave it with a hammer and chisel lol! Almost finished up a side project, twin 100# propane tank rack for my trailer tonight.....it will make it easier to fill up the tanks to keep the shops warm! (above 50 for your people in Florida, lol) I will post a pic when I get them rigged up and ready to go to the propane place. I also stripped the bock ,freeze plugs, etc and wrapped up the head......nice 65 pound cardboard and cast iron burrito, lol!

You know I was going to build a plywood box for it. The guy who is doing the work said just to role it up in 3 or 4 layers of cardboard and it will be fine. He said he has done 100's that way without any problems. I guess we will see.

Your head guy surely never met my UPS driver.

Hope the rocker studs don't poke through the cardboard. How long before it's shipped back to you?

I kind of thought the same thing GA. I am convinced however, that FedEx uses a C130 to drop stuff at the airport......get about 100' off the ground, open the back ramp and shove everything out lol! I always wonder why some of our packages end up "round"....I am pretty sure they start out with square corners!

I am not sure on turn around, I asked him that last night when I sent him the parts list. I'm guessing I will find out on Monday.

Must be a regional thing. Around here it's UPS that rounds the corners. Anything of value I insist on getting Fedex

Engine goodies showed up today!

Cam, lifters, harmonic balancer, gaskets, main-rod-cam bearings, timing gear set, balanced rods with ARP bolts...and he threw in comp cams break in oil. Which I am sure saves in from explaining to people why the cam went flat later when they use non-zinc oil. He got the head yesterday, and now the block and cam bearings go to the machine shop Monday! Might actually get to start putting things together next week! I am really interested to see how the old girl preforms with a little extra HP and torque! I also bought a kit to drill and tap the front of the crank. The factory didn't put a bolt on it to hold on the harmonic balancer. Its pressed on so they said good enough. But the bolt adds insurance and allows you to rotate the engine when setting ignition and cam timing.

Congrats I love engine builds. The straight sixes make good power. They were to go to hot rod choice way back,

Yes they did Chevy. The guy I am working with specializes in them. H as dyno runs showing his "hot" naturally aspirated engines making 340hp! I think his turbos will go north of 600hp if you can believe that. I'd be happy getting 190 or so out of this one. Not putting it on a dyno, so I guess we won't know, but I am hoping she had a little more kick in the seat on the first test run!

I dropped the block of at the machine shop for a hot bath, magnafluxing, and new cam bearings. So making a bit of progress. Hopefully will get it back mid-week next week. Once I hear it check out on no cracks, I will order the pistons, which hopefully I can get in a few days. Then back to the machine shop to get them installed on the rods the following week. After that I can start putting the short block back together. Hopefully the head will come back around then too. I would like to get the engine back in early next month. I still need to finish up the blower, final back seat mounting and a few other things before may for some test runs. I would like to have the final punch list done before June and prime boating season start!

Exciting stuff! I have every confidence you'll make it happen. Fingers crossed for the block. I'd be shocked if it has any issues. So is he going to bore it? I can't remember what the situation was on that. Anyway good luck!

Cheers...................Todd

Todd, I hydrolocked it....bent a few rods, and piston pins. The intake / exhaust manifold had a pinhole leak between the exhaust chamber (dry section) and the water jacket. Flooded the exhaust chamber when I had it on the muffs and of course the engine...and guess who started it and destroyed the above mentioned parts? Pistons scared the cylinder walls in the process The block was JUST bored, but .060 over, so I honed most of the cylinder wall damage out, and planning to put new pistons, rings and rods back in it. It might burn a bit of oil, but since it is 60 over already I would have to find another block and have it machined if I replace it. Everything on this one is in spec, so I am just running with it. I won't run it more than a dozen weekends a year, so it make justifying another 800 to1K on a newly machine block hard to justify......instead I am spending it on hot rod parts like an aggressive marine grind cam, installing larger valves in the head, shaving it for higher compression, porting, polishing the ports, re-machining the intakes for lump ports to improve flow. Basically ignoring the few scores in #6 an adding HP......makes total since to me....makes 25% more power but burns a tad of oil :D Makes more sense than rebuilding it to stock without slightly scored walls right? :bounce::bounce::bounce:
