Welcome back. I heard about that earthquake on the news up here glad to hear there was no major damage. Jees, you guys in Okey land get it all huh? Tornados, earthquakes, drought, extreme heat. I think I'll take my occasional hurricane and call it good. Glad to see you at it again, great work as per usual. The fun part of the build is about to begin. Although it seems this glassing stuff is something you really enjoy too. Seems your work partner is happy to see you in the shop again, with its nice cool floors. :)

Hey, maybe your dog is there because he thinks you've been building him a doghouse all this time.

Lol Pat, we consider weather a sport here, lol! Keeps things interesting.

Thanks Woe, there is a lot of detail.

Speaking of I got some time this afternoon on Fuggly, but spent the morning rescuing another Fuggly. One of my buddies bought this.

We winched it up on my trailer, for some reason, I think I am going to be involved in the camper conversion lol!

Are you going to make one of those van boat conversions we've seen on C/L?

Lol no he just wants something cool to go camping in. I did get some time this afternoon on Fuggly. I mainly worked on the channels where the dog house rest. I made the mold too deep on purpose, figuring I could always build it up. I made a right and left "screed block that I could run across the top of the finished ridge. That would give me a good start to setting the depth and cutting out a lot of sanding.

The camera made the gap look big, its really about 3/16" or so. I filled the gap with duraglass, to start with. Very hard, but a good filler for thick areas. I added a shim to the screed so that the finished surface would be low. after that I could come back with bondo, which is much easier to sand and shape. Sanding stuff like this is a by hand chore!

I was happy with the results of the duraglass laydown. It is like trying to make roofing tar look pretty lol,,,,but this worked well to set a height.

Here is the first run of bondo, there will be a lot of others, but its nice to have something level and straight

I have been using the ones from harbor freight. They're thin too, but cheap enough I don't mind wasting them.

I used to get them there, they actually had some really good ones 7 or 8 years ago (think that is the only thing I have ever liked from there lol ). I'm just looking for some that hold up to glass / aceatone for a few miniutes. seems like if the layup is long, the give out towards the end.

I can vouch that the harbor freight gloves are terrible in acetone. They usually fall apart in a few minutes. The only thing I found that holds up is the thicker chemical resistant gloves. I was buying them at Grainger or McMaster-Carr depending on price. They're definitely not disposable though.

I like Harbor frieghts. I think they make 7 mil and 9 mil. I don't like anything in that HD HDX line. Cheap gloves, microfiber towels, etc. I used to get them from the costco, bjs type stores. Two pack of them and cheap. But good gloves. BTW. Best micro fiber towels around are at Costco in the auto section. I use them instead of a sponge or sandpaper for spackle but they are thicker than any I have found elswhere. They also dry the boat and cars very well with no lint. Ok. Costco commercial over.

Nitrile does not do well with acetone. I get the black grease monkey brand from HD. They hold up fairly well to resin, but not acetone.

Chuck, the older ones held up better, guess they figured out how to make them cheaper! Thanks JB, I will see if I can round up a box and try them out. i just hate it when 3/4 of the way through the gloves crap out on you. Sorry Pat, no Costco's here! Wally world has managed to crush most every retail business here unfortunately. I'm always surprised at how people will sacrifice quality to save a few cents. Anyhow I like quality, lol So I will get off my soap box ( It would be built out of oak with dove tails lol )

The last ones I bought, I went to a medical supply store and bought them there. Not a bad price either. I think around $9 or $10 for a hundred. And obviously different sizes as well. They seem to work fairly well unless you are using them for a very long polyester job, then they split and I remove them and re-glove if needed. They do make chemical impervious gloves but they are so thick, you really can't work too well with them on. So like everybody else it seems, I just work with them until they start to split and them I replace them and continue on, if necessary. JMHO

Putting gloves on sweaty hands is not the easiest thing to do ..

Shame about the costco thing but I guess I can understand. Their prices aren't much better if at all and you have to pay the yearly fee. The Walmart in my town is kind of a scary place to visit. I guess we have an over abundance of grocery stores and a costco and BJ'S all within 10 minutes of here so I guess Walmart doesn't get alot of business from my town. We also have 2 Targets, and a Best Buy and P.C. Richards appliance stores so WalleyWorld must not be a big draw.

I use chemically resistant gloves called Bluettes and they are like a heavy duty version of dish washing gloves. I get them at my local paint Store but I'm sure they are online. If there is a thin walled vision I would like to know. I use them alot when prepping to stain and would love a thinner glove. The ones I use are not too bad compared to others I've seen but I would love a pair where you could actually feel the work. The two glove trick is a good one if you keep changing before the inner pair gets eaten. Sweaty hands and gloves don't go well together as Sam has stated

Sam before I bought the correct size, I had tons of problems getting the gloves on. Seriously, it would take me more time getting the gloves on them the work I put them on to do. I fell for that "One size fits all" statement. And that couldn't be farther from the truth. So this last batch of gloves I bought, I got either large or extra large and I can put the gloves on in one quick try. Just my experience. JMHO
