Skater, that is what we call "nice", lol. I won't trade you for your cold however!

I got some welding done yesterday, but didn't get the froward bunk brackets done. one step closer however.

I did build this for a marketing project for my company, I like to do something for summer. So this year I am building 6 pack carriers, filled with orange, grape or strawberry crush soda. Thought I would share the prototype, only 20 or so to go, lol!

Looks like the KOB's could fit in there also ! ;)
Maybe a little larger and you could add some ice ...

Patt I think we can do without the CSM on the 6 pack holder, it seems to float nicely :D

I was heading to the lake tonight, but we had a cold (cool) front roll through. Alegedly we were going to get rain.....still don't see any....but since I stayed here I took advantage and did some work on Fuggly. Just to get everyone (and me) back to where I am, I need to get theforward bunk mounts on. I think this will help out a bunch with the boat squirming all over the trailer. I have improved that a ton, but I am still not happy. Hopefully this will be the cure, if not weld on more steel  I think this will really work well, if not I will box the c-channel frame members! But this should be the last step before pulling the motor and gimble housing. I need to do that to have good access to finish up the glass and body work around the doghouse. I also need all the drive off so I can paint the transom.

Here is the port forward bunk bracket. It was a LOT of cutting, grinding and fitting for something so small! The coping on the big tube was a pain.

I also cut out an fabricated the hard parts for the starboard bracket that I hadn't gotten to.

Here is the port bracket sitting on an angle that I am using as a jig. Tomorrow I am squaring it up and welding it in place.

I noticed that the boat was sort of rocking on the bunks, I'm hoping the forward supports (extending the bunks 2 more feet) will solve that problem. I wanted to do this and figure out where I am with it before pulling the motor. Hopefully a little welding tomorrow, pull the motor Sunday....and primer and paint soon!

That should keep it from squirming around a bunch ... Welding looks great ! I'm gunna learn to weld one of these days ... I need to dig a trench to my garage to run a new 220 line to power my compressor and new welding machine I picked up a while back .. With this heat digging trenches is not high on the priority list ..

I finished up the font brackets this afternoon. They are welded up pretty solid, but I still need to weld a couple beads. I'll run those later when I have the boat off the trailer.

That fixed the boat rocking. I still have a little bouncing, that seems to be coming from the new tounge tube. I thought a 3x4x3/16 tube would have been plenty. Its even braced with diagonals off the bow stop / winch post. So when I have the boat off I think I'm going to add a 3x2 tube to the bottom of it. That will make the tube 6" deep, surely that will do the trick! Wish I would have just bought a 3x6 to start with now. Anyhow we are good to go on pulling the motor.

I do need to overhaul the engine hoist first. I'm going to move Fuggly to the hanger and the hoist to the shop so that I can overhaul it. The casters on the hoist suck, so I am going to replace them. The boom also angles off to one side, need to cut some steel loose and square a few things up. When it gets off to one side it becomes a little unstable when it is up 6' or 7' up in the air......which is about how high it is hoisting the motor in the boat. Getting smashed by a motor would suck, so I think I will get it tuned up and fixed :D

Hopefully I can get the motor out next week sometime.

Don't go too thick on the tongue addition. Some steeper ramps could cause the bottom of the tongue to drag on the break over.

It should be pretty solid with the triangle bracing to the winch tower.

Thanks for the thoughts GA. I hadn't considered the break over at the ramps! I did some measuring tonight. Fuggly's chariot has a strait axle, just like my Sleekcraft (not a drop) Oddly enough, Fuggly and Miss Morgans trailers are almost the same wheel base and height at the axle. I was surprised given that Fuggly is 3' longer. I haven't been close to having a problem with a ramp with Miss Morgan, so I think I will be fine with Fuggly.

I think the current design is more than adequate from a strength standpoint. My main concern is eliminating as much vertical motion as I can at the bow stops. The old configuration damaged the bow of the boat and the rub rail. I think the tube on the bottom will improve that and hopefully prevent the damage from reoccurring. Realistically I only see Fuggly on the ramp twice a year. The rest of the time she will be in a lift in my dock or in the hangar.

I did the shuffle tonight, Fuggly is in the hanger and the engine hoist is awaiting the welder tomorrow :D

One of the ramps I use has an access road steeper than any ramp onto the main road. The transition from the main to access road has many deep gouges from tongues dragging through the asphalt. The ramp is concrete, so only scrape marks there. LOL

I just was giving food for thought, Arch.

GA, thanks! I guess we are sort of luck, almost all of our lakes are Corp lakes. For the most part they seem to do a good job on grading the ramps. There are always some chunks of chipped concrete in the middle, but those are from skeggs bounding up the ramp.....makes me cringe thinking about it!

I overhauled the engine hoist today. I got the boom almost centered. Its off about 1-1/2" now...It was closer to 5" or 6" before I tweaked it. I would be a couple days of work to get it dialed in closer, so I called it good. I didn't get the casters replaced, I need to buy some plate stock next week to make mounting plates. The old ones were welded on, which I sort of wonder if that is why they don't swivel worth a flip.

So I got back into Fuggly mode this weekend....sort of. I spent last night doing some welding, finishing up the engine hoist tweaks, building a gate part for Dad and welding a bracket back on the axle that goes on my dock walkway. I started out today at 6 am, got a nice shake from an earthquake at 7ish then pulled the engine out of Fuggly. After that I cleaned out the shop, moved her back in and got started on miscellaneous glass and body work on the rear deck extensions. I needed the engine out for a couple of reasons. 1, I needed to pull the gimble and through hull parts of the drive so I could paint the transom, 2. so I could do some body / glass work around the dog house opening. The carb was right in the way of straitening out the port groove where the dog house sits. Speaking of dogs, don't even try to steal his pillow, lol!

The starboard side groove for the dog house was pretty close, the port was off where it tied into the existing deck.....don't ask me why, but everything else fit lol! Anyhow I cut the bottom of the groove in half after I pulled the motor. I put in the board that I used as the mold and shimmed out the inside flange to align with the original (close, this kind of bodywork seems to be like hand grenades! Close and mud it up, :D )

I put a piece of 1708 on the bottom, then pulled the form board. The camera warped the photo some, but it is actually pretty strait. That added about a 1/4" in width where the old and new mate. I also did a lot of other minor glassing and mudding. Hopefully tomorrow I can make some progress on sanding the mud down and getting close to primer.

Yea my dogs use to visit me constantly in the shop when they were still around.

Seems the little things add up to a lot of time. Nice fix.

I have tripping hazard X 10 at my house right now ! :dog:
Yep tough loss for the Sooners ... A lot of upsets yesterday it seems .. I thought we were in for one early on but they got it together in the second half .
But if your gunna lose one it's best to lose early in the season ...

Charlie seems to either lay down in front of the fan....which when he leans against it, tips it down towards him and away from me! or he just finds a nice spot that is right in the way!

I hate it when we start the season ranked in the top 4, kiss of death! Their hats get to big for them, guess we will see what happens from here.
