I had a lot of distractions today, but made a lot of progress.....that probably explains why I am itching......

I put some clay on top of the spark arestor and capped it with a small piece o plywood. I put the dog house on and compressed it, giving me the height.

After looking at that i decided to take an 1" off.

I also ground down the back corners, which were pretty thick anyhow. The corner works much better now.

I cut out some hard points out of my seacast brownies to used for the hinges.

After all of that, I sanded all the parts I have made and cleaned them up. With everything mocked up I did a bunch of tabbing in and glassing in the hard points. I have a little tabbing in to do tomorrow, but after that we can start the body work.......and getting her ready for paint!

Cool trick for getting the doghouse height !
I was gunna suggest a slight modification to the d/h but your getting her ready for paint so I don't want to give you any reason to pause ..:D
Good to have some smurf biscuits laying around .. They do come in handy at times ...

feel free to make suggestions Sam. I may still tweak it or the best part is I can always change it later since it come off the boat. I just want to focus on getting it to fit, hinges working and the rest of the glass tabbed in. There is a good bit of body work to be done, and I am getting close to being ready to pull the motor back out. I need to do that in order to tab in some of the glass on the port side, I just can't get in there to grind it. I also need to pull the hull off the trailer one more time to paint the trailer. It will be a lot easier without the motor.

Well ok but may be to much work at this point .. Just as a profile change . Thinking it would look nice if the very back of the d/h was sloped inward to match the back cap angle .. With the angled cap and scalloped side gunnels might make it a little less boxy .. Not that it looks bad the way it is ...
Now forget that I mentioned it and keep on keeping on ..

Thanks for the idea Sam! I can always cut it up and glass it back together :D That is the nice thing about molding glass....you can use the hand grenade design method, and tweak it later.

I did a lot of not fun stuff today. Tabbed in upside down under the deck extension. I have almost all of the tabbing done now, the rest will have to be done when I pull the motor. I also sanded down a lot of areas I patched with duraglass and fiberglass....itch itch......

The biggest accomplishment was getting the doghouse hinged! worked very nicely the first try!

Looks great Arch. Love everything about it. The hinges look great, mounting points look great. I also love the "PowerCat" logo on the upholstery. I hope you plan on keeping it somewhere in some fashion.

Thanks Pat I'm actually planning on cutting that section of the sides.....whatever you call them out. I need to shorten them and I want to save the logo. I'm hoping I can use that as a mold to reproduce the logos that went on the side. I have sort of toyed with the idea of having them embroidered onto the seats.....but that is a long way off!

Cool stuff. Not sure if the embroidery is deep enough for an emblem but you could probably build around it and Dremel out a piece. Or epoxy two/three together and sink that into their mold material to get the thickness. Lots of ways to go about it once you have a clean face piece really. Glad to see you contemplating keeping the logo around. To cool to get rid of. Also gives you a cool color scheme for the interior. Austin Powers approved I'm sure, very shagadelic baby. Lol

Last night I worked on the trailer some. When I added the new 3"x4" tube for the touge and bow stop / winch mount, I made it the same length as the old hinged pipe. I basically welded the back part of the tube to the cross member that had the hinge on it. That helped a lot, but the bow still bounces up and down too much. After a lot of thought, I decided to extend the tube back to the next cross member. So last night I spent about an hour and a half welding the extension on. It help some but didn't fix the problem. Its hard to tell where the trailer is flexing, probably a little everywhere. After bounding it up and down about 10 times I came up with an idea.

Bingo, it should have had support rollers further forward. I just laid the 4x4 across the trailer and blocked up the hull. That cut down the bounding by 90^ or so. Someone mentioned adding bow stops in that area a while back. I think what I'm going to do is extend the bunks forward and add a couple of cleats to act as stops. Really the trailer is the wrong design. The part where the tough flars out to a Y should have been about 3' further forward. It wouldn't be an issue on a typical boat, but this boat has a lot more weight forward than typical.

Tonight I cut out and coped a couple of 4"x3"x3/16" tubes to weld onto the frame rails. These will attach in line with the existing cross member. I carefully measured the angle.....then cut both tubes at the wrong angle! :mad-new: Second time was the charm. After a bunch of grinding and cutting I got them to fit fairly well. Here is one of them mocked up, sitting on an angle I clamped to the cross member. I also clamped a piece of angle to the bunk to project the edge of it forward for a reference to mark from.

I did some measuring and it is exactly 5" from the bottom of the sponson to the the top of the new tube bracket. If you deduct the height of the bunk, that leaves you with 3-1/2". I'm going to pick up some 3-1/2" x 2" tube tomorrow to use as a bunk support. Its going to run parallel to the bunk. It will attach at the new tube bracket and further back where it intersects the frame rail. And somewhere in front of the new tube bracket, I will cut it off and weld on an angle perpendicular to it for mounting the bunk.....makes perfect sense right? :jaw:

Lol, back to fiberglass and body work this weekend. I sopped by the automotive paint shop on the way home and stocked up on some high build sandible urethane primer. Same stuff I used on Miss Moran, works wonders! The weather is supposed to be in the 80s and much dryer, we have been stuck the 50 / 60s with rain. This weekend looks great for a little glass and a lot of body work.

I'm also going to put the system 3 penetrating epoxy on the seat frames. It takes 24 hours to dry when it is 80, I didn't even want to try it with the temps and humidity the way it has been.

I also found these guys today, they sand cast brass emblems, scroll down to the bottom. The only thing is they have the older California plant location on them. Mine was made later in Texas. I am talking with them to see if they can modify it to have the Texas plant on it.....yes I am picky lol!
