Lol it is piping, but you were pretty close Skater!

So I was thinking about the wrap around L and U options this afternoon. But the thing I kept fighting with is most of those configurations have a back built into the gunnel. That would have been easy to do on Miss Morgan, but Fuggly has a lot of things coming together in the gunnel area around the front seat,

I put the pencil on the seat to sort of point out all of the stuff going on. I like the white side piece, but with it, the windshield post coming down and everything going on there really isn't a good transition area for the seat to die into the gunnel. Miss Morgan would have been simple.

So I decided to make a "generic" seat and pattern it off of the basic size of the existing seats, which are fairly comfy / functional. Here it is mocked up showing where it would be relative to the original seat if it was a full width bench across the back.

Way too tight as I mentioned this morning.

FYI most of the time the boat will only have 4 people in it, but she is rated for 7....but I want to have at least 6 seats.

So I got to thinking about a hybrid, not a jump seat but not a strait across bench. I moved the seat back about a 1' the back was beside the motor, but really you mostly sit in front of the motor.

You also end up with about 13" or so behind the seat that can be storage.

It also works out with the loungers if you want a long bed....which I have sort of thought about her on some overnight trips down the river.

And if the back is hinged at the top, it could flip up 180 or so and become a back rest.

This was just a quick mock up with scraps, but I think it highlights the idea. The area where the tape is would be a padded area.....gives you 3' of leg room.

So I made another mock up and got in to study things. It works well for stretching out as a foot rest. Which most of the time with 4 people, everyone would probally pick the back seats.

Or you could stretch out and give some one sitting opposite some leg room.

So this is where I left it for the day:

I think the center part could be padded or maybe a good place for a drink holder. Also I have been tinkering with the idea of a cowl to pull in fresh air. I need to sort the venting out while I am at it. I'd like to have the cowl intake and relocate both of the vents you see in the picture with the tape on the deck. Have them backwards, and the cowl facing forwards.

its not real high tech, but neither is Fuggy. I was thinking today, she is more like a 1970 Cadillac Limo....sort of big, boxy and comfy! So I feel like this might be a good direction. I don't know if it is the final direction, but I'm feeling good about it right now. It has a looonnnng way to go, but it seems like I got something done today!

I think the seats back like that look pretty darn good. If you plan to add the sun platform on the back maybe in the middle of that box in front of the motor make it into a gripy step with drink holders on each side.

I think that layout works pretty good. I like the idea of the rear seat backrest flipping 180? thereby becoming a backrest for the sunpad. To keep seating for 6 I think you've mocked up the best scenario.

I like the layout as well. Seems to be really functional as well as looking like it should be in the boat.

The center section,........Padded with drink holders,.!

I agree ... And could be used as a seat for a little one if needed ... Trying to envision the flip up back rest for the sun pad ...
I like it and extra storage is always a plus ....

Great lay-out! You end up with a ton of storage, and I really like the extra long beds for those overnight trips.

[You are a good son! Hang in there, I know you will find a way to get Project Fuggly done./QUOTE]

Thanks Willy, they seem to be getting along pretty well today. Mom will take a while, but I think Dad will be in good shape by the end of the week.

Sounds like most of you guys like the layout. Its grown on me and keeping it simple sounds like a good plan at this point, lol! I'm going to tinker with the cardboard some more this week and see where I get. I have a couple things going on, but should get a night or two to work on it. My interior designer is checking on vinyl options and I have emailed Iboats and a couple others about samples. That is one of my rules, never pick out colors without a sample! It NEVER looks like what it does on the screen, ask me how I know ,lol!

What are your plans for the upholstered side panels? Match the seat vinyl? Carpet? Maybe carpet on the lower (vertical) section and vinyl above. Just a thought before you order samples.

Thanks JB, I'll take a look. I'm hoping one of the fabric vendors we work with will have something. They usually give substantial discounts to architects....one of the few perks lol! Also anything they have will be architectural grade, which is a plus.

Patt, I'm not totally sure on the side panels. Thank you for your thoughts! T\On the lower part of the panels in front seat area, I am thinking vinyl over thin foam. In the back seat area I will change up things to accommodate the new seats, on the side panels, not quite sure yet. I am planning on running the carpet up the sides under the gunnel. Quick easy way to get rid of the splatter paint on the sides and clean it up. Also helps with noise. On the carpet / Vinyl, I learned a long time ago to find out what is available, then design around those materials. That is why I want to get vinyl and carpet samples. I more or less do this same thing with buildings everyday....its more of a dance than a process lol! :D

So I built a mock-up of the engine cover tonight. I built the bow end longer than it needs to be. Once I have an idea worked out, I'll trim it back.

I spent some time studying how things need to come together and have a couple ideas I need to sleep on. I think this is going to be the tricky part. I'm going to need to make a few molds for new glass. Sorting out where the glass ends and where the seats start is going to be the interesting part! I want to make sure I have removable bulkheads at the front an sides of the engines. I used to curse my searay every time I changed the oil! That will make it more tedious of course, but that is a must for me.

If you make the seat one piece all along the front and attach the backs and hinge it along the bottom the whole thing could be tilted forward and out of the way for access to the motor. Get that Boomer Sooner PRO upholstery Guy up in Wichita to make you a Kool Seat Cushion for it!!!
