Here is a quick video on the fiberglass mold making experiments I have been working on.

Whoa. You never said the Jeep was pink in your email. LOL. Nice video Bobby. Cool to see your learning process. It certainly makes you have respect for the guys that lay entire boats up with flawless finishes right out of the mold.

Cool video... Thanks for showing that... Like the jeep... I've always wanted to have an old CJ-7.

Its actually kind of purple when you see it in person.....I've started calling her the purple b---ch! She has been fighting some, lol! I had some video of the actual process, but I figured you guys have already seen enough people laying up glass!

Same here. I have a big stack of freshly powder coated parts and several $$$ in AN fittings sitting on the bench ready to go on the Daytona.

Excellent video, Thanks. Looking forward to seeing you work toward the pontoon's final design.

Just call it something that has a factory-sounding name like "metallic rosewood" or something and no one will ever think it is pink...

My first car was "rose mist". It was mauve and was heinous.

Hey Arch, try using some "White Shower Board" or Melamine. Wax it down good and it works really well for a mold. When I was a bit younger I made some Motorcycle saddle bags using the shower board as molding material and it worked really well. I would also think that if you use a 6 oz cloth first and then the CSM layers and Woven you would not get the Bleed through of the woven as bad. JMO

Lol, I'll have to come up with the color "name"!

I thought about melamine Wood, but I'm going to need to make some curves and fillets with bondo, which will need to be sealed. That is why I was leaning towards the lacquer finish. I dion't think the melamine would react well to the lacquer. I want to make a 2' or so long section of the the boat side next. That should give me a better idea of what is going to be involved in forming the shapes.

Ok, I guess I'm confused. If you used a wood form that was already sealed with a Plastic type sealer such as Melamine or Shower Board and then applied Your filleting material, where would you be using the lacquer sealer? Am I just being an Old Dumb Okie here??? Wouldn't the wood be ready to go?

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

I think the bondo will need sealed up also. My thought was to build up everything I can out of wood, bondo ,shape and sand it....then seal up everything and fill in scratches etc with the high build lacquer. that should give me a nice consistent surface. I maybe over-thinking it, guess we'll see what happens when I build the 2' long mock-up. I'll dig around to see if I have some left over melamine and give it a try to.

Hopefully I'm not being a pest, just that I've used it before, albeit not with lacquer sealer, and it worked really well. Just tell me to bug off anytime.:D
