Hiya Arch. I haven't been on here in a while, so I just went through your thread. Stellar work as always. While we are all very impressed with you design ideas and mock-up skills, I'm ready to see your ideas for mass dispensation of cold suds :)

LOL! I haven't worked on her in a while, had to put her on the back burner so I could finish up a couple of other projects. I'll keep that in mind, I should be getting back to her soon!

Just winding down the last of my other projects. I think she will go back in the shop in 5 or 6 weeks. I have also been working on revising my plans for her. I really need to get her in the water next year, Miss Morgan doesn't work to well when I have 6 or 8 people at the lake!

I'm ready to get back to it....I just need to finish cleaning off my plate. Having 3 or 4 major projects going was getting a little nuts!

Awesome, can't wait...glad to see you've been busy, but haven't forgotten us "boat junkies"...

I even looked for the possibility that you were hanging out on the pontoon forum:eek:...since I didn't see you there...I figured you hadn't left us out of the loop...;)

See ya when you get back on it...really looking forward to all the cool ideas you have been dreaming up...

Till then...

Best Regards!:D

Thanks, I'm ready to get back to it. I just had too many things going on for the amount of time / money I had. Now that those are winding down I'm looking forward to getting back too this project!

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

OK so I'm starting to get my brain back on this project. It's going to be a few more weeks before I can make much progress...but I've spent some time thinking about it this weekend. My freind David is pushing me to find another 45 hp merc and put twins on the boat. I need to look a the cost, but it sounds like a cool idea. One question came up, I'm assuming one needs to counter rotate. If I recall correctly that isn't a big deal for a two stroke reed valve motor....I think the early ones used counter rotation in place of a reverse gear. So the question is, if I find another 45 hp, how do I set it up to counter rotate? I'm thinking it has to do with the ignition timing, perhaps someone could enlighten me? I'll post this over on the outboard forum also.

Ok so I have been reading some, looks like its more of having a left hand turning prop?

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Based on my original thoughts to add a 2nd 1957 35hp to the FireFlite, and some reading, yes, you'd want a reverse setup motor that has the reverse turning prop.

I think counter-rotating would then be the left hand turning... It's late, my brain don't work so good after dark on weekends.

Is prop walk/steer really going to be a big problem on a 'twin' hulled toon?

And wasn't there some discussion of the below deck 3rd sponson~toon? Even less likely to notice the prop steer ;)

Twins on Ms Morgan, different story :)

Good to see ya giving the toon some time in the forward portions of the grey matter.......

I'm not sure that the motors need to be counter-rotating if they are 45's seperated by 4 feet or more. There is a guy here at Raystown with a twin 50HP 22 foot pontoon. I'm almost certain that they are both stock, right turning mid 80's OMC's, one at the rear of each tube.

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

I just wanted to post an update. I have been working on wrapping up some other projects that have taken more time and $$ than I had hoped. One, my fence is about 85% done...the other is my retaining wall at the lake that is more or less done other than getting some grass growing. Both were really huge projects, but are now winding down.

I had two other things that side tracked me: The AC died in late September.... OK and no AC = misery! So that took a major chunk out of the play fund! The other is yet another toy.... the admiral / girlfriend doesn't like hiking to the dock over 1/4 mile of sandy beach lugging the ice chest.....to be honest neither do I. So I just picked up a jeep cj5 fixer upper. The plan is to do the minimum to it and use it for the summer. Sometime later down the road I can do a more extensive overhaul of it. I should be posting that on my utube channel if you are interested. (the fence project is also on there).

The good news for the boat is the Admiral has two kids and friends....she also likes the lake....since she, I, and the kids barely fit in the Sleek, I can sell her on the next project after the jeep should be the pontoon! I have also been working on some mock-ups / experiments on building molds for the sides / bow of the boat. I'm pretty happy with what I have learned so far. I have some video that I need to edit, hopefully I can get that posted this week. Next step is to build a mockup mold of a section of the side. I'm thinking something 2' long or so. Sorry I don't have more progress, but life seems to keep getting in the way of this build....but I will get it back on the front burner soon!

Glad to hear you are getting caught up Bobby. I hear ya on the other projects. I pulled the pump out of the Daytona to get it powder coated and found a nice crack in the bottom of the boat. The Daytona has taken over my winter project time. Maybe the Ambassador will get some love in the spring.

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Sorry to hear that Matt, that really sucks! But I guess finding it is better than wondering why all that water is in the back of the boat :D! I have to admit, I have had to make myself "finish" the other projects....the boat sounds like a lot more fun than shoveling concrete or setting fence post!

Glad to see you around Bobby...

Life is just, well life...:faint2:

The Jeep sounds like the perfect compliment to the boat, have fun with that...:cool-new:

Most anxious to see what develops on the 'toon when you get all the way back into it...

Best regards,
Gus

sounds like life is treating is you well, and you got some big projects out of the way... I definitely want to follow along on that jeep project... sounds cool!

And, we'll be here of course whenever you are ready to re-engage on the ol' toon project...

Very best,

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

archbuilder I understand completely about life getting in the way. My poor ChryslerJet has been begging to get finished and back on the water and seems like every time I plan a weekend of work on her something gets in the way.

Matt sorry to hear about the crack on the Daytona. Keep us posted on the progress of getting that bad boy back on the water.
