Pilothouse build ?'s 1978 Wellcraft Nova 250

Kicking around the idea of building a pilot house on my boat. Rough dimensions would be 8'L x 7'W x 4'H Any opinions on using 3/4" frp panels glassed together at the joints?

Cool materials concept. after looking at some info, specs and adhesives FRP mfg suggested I don't think fiberglass will adhere. May be more like something to use as a mold.

I would look for a Cuddy project boat and use your boat as you fix up the other.

The wellcraft is a cuddy. hindsight I wish I would have bought another larger boat as a project and left my current boat intact. However that is to late, I have mine ripped apart now, prepping for paint.

Plywood sandwiched by fiberglass. They come in 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" OD. Same material that is used to buld walls of truck body beds. ie uhaul etc.

You said 3/4" in the first post, 3/8" or even 1/4" is fine, 3/4" would be far to heavy.

I supply the manufacturer of those panels and know them well, plus have a stack of them in my shop.

I did say 3/4 in my original post. I found out after that he did not have 3/4... If you dont mind, I would like to pick your brain for a bit..

Roughly, what would a piece of 1/2" 4'x8' run me?

Can I sand down the edges then glass them together?

I don't know the price on them, but even 1/2" may be too thick and heavy for what you want to do. I got mine to make a pilot house, changed my mind on the design about a dozen times and then my motivation began to fade. Start making yours and post some pics, it may be enough to get me motivated again.

I ordered 1/2" . I want as many windows as possible, so that will lighten the load.

Pulled the windshield off today and more body work .

Wont let me upload from phone, nor PC. I have tried to reduce file size, still wont go. Would somebody mind if I emailed them the photos and they could post for me. I would like some input back from you all on design possibly even some decent photoshop guys to place a pilot house on the boat.. This is a one shot deal for me and would hate regrets after completion.

Forgot to add.. Pilothouse would need to he 48" from top of dimensions "C" to the ceiling.

You may want to try some cad software -- such as google sketch up

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... I'd be concerned with all that weight so high up,....

I went with an aluminum frame, 'n canvas,....
Completely dry, 'n warm in the colder times of year, as I use a cabin heater,...
