hello iboats, i would first like to say that i have been reading posts on here for about two weeks and have decided to jump aboard and ask some questions due to my idea to restore my 75 seaswirl. I have especially enjoyed reading up on oops and his hull extention project WOW!!

this is my first boat which i have had for about two years i have caught many fish on it and after deciding not to sell it and keep it forever i decided to restore and add some fabrication to suit my fishing needs.

i tore up the floor this morning underneathe i found no stringer and the deck laid directly on the hull except for the middle portion which was inlayed with foam. also there was a puddle of water collecting at the bottom of the hull. in the bow there are portions of the hull that light dimly shine through.

Questions:
how many layers of fiberglass should i add to the hull
do i epoxy and fiberglass both sides of the ply for the deck
what type of fiberglass matt should i use
what oz fiberglass should i use

i would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions anyone would be willing to give

that is a smooth ride

Hi there Flounder , and welcome !!

Well frist off you need to get your own thread started ,
second why would you need to glass the hull ???
third nope just glass the top , make sure you seal the plywood on all sides thoe with 3 coats would be great !
Forth you dont need mat with epoxy , and I used all eglass its stronger the regular glass and i USED 8 OZ AND 10.5 oz eglass !! John

Nope been busy with life !!!! lol work ,puppies, and kids !! OHH and the new call to duty !! hoping here this next month !!

Hi all

Well I am getting out on her today . I got to cut a hole for the radio, hook up some LED light , red for night fishing , pull the starter and run it to get it rebuilt !! hook up the lower unit !!! so we will see how far i get !!!! John

I will get some up later !! I did get the hole cut for the radio, and all the wires straighted out !! man that too most of the day !! getting all the wires tied up man thats was driving me nuts , and the wire rubbing on the white vinyl in the gunnel's left black marks on it , I got some super clean to get it off !!

And today The leds and the starter !!! John

I dont really know , I heard stories , one of my buddies said in brother in law pulled over 200 out of there last year . I dont know what were doing wrong , we only pulled out one !!!??? lol lot of bass and a few perch !! and carp,blue cats. suckers,theres one spot on the top part of it that we had our line broken by [ we think a huge bass] 5 or 6 time !! would pull us right into the weeds and gone !!!

I am hoping here in the next week or so to hit the water !!!!! the trailer is going to wait to get painted !! my compressor is big enough to keep the sandblaster going !! John

Keep on tinkering with your red and white blur....should be new from top the bottom by years end.....

I wish we had walleye and perch out west here....the DOW needs to let some loose in Lake mead along with some minnows and water plants....all weve got is algae and some brush that grows on the periphery.....lousy structure! rock snags is about it....

OHh yea that stinks vegasphotoman !! love perch, and walleye !!

Well guys got the leds glued , not wired, got the starter in the shop he said I can have it back tomorrow !!! I got 4 new speakers that are hooked up but not mounted , most of it rewired in the dash !!

I was going to mount 2 on each side in the back but one was good , think its going to be plenty bright !! there red so i hope they wont draw the bugs !! got on each side by the front sears and going to mount one more for the bow floor !!

It felt good being out there !! cant wait to hit the water !! john

Hey John!! Just got finished getting caught up on your thread. Man, congratulations on a super job. I remember the days of me stopping in and you being so sick and tired of sanding on that marine tex!! Lol. It all paid off though. Very nice work.

Hi all .

Man I cant say enough about the leds i got for her !! just 4 leds in each , and man they put out the light , i really think it will be just right for night fishing !!and these pics were taken at 7;30 still day light

then the raido and the switch for the leds is up in the right corner of the dash , its red also

hoping here next week She Will Be in the water !! john

I didnt , there amps draw is so low its not even funny !! you could leave them on for a week and still have a fresh battier !! John

Don?t mean to quibble, but I think it is important to know that a fuse is intended to protect against overheating and possible fire. In reality the fuse is there to protect the wire not the lights. It is always best to use a fuse on any branch at its source. (before the on/off switch at the panel or battery) No matter the amp draw of the lights if ground and hot get together somewhere the wire is going to get very hot without a fuse. At best the wire will burn in two, at worst the heat will cause a fire. A fuse is supposed to blow before the wire gets hot. Boats vibrate allot and the chance of hot and ground rubbing together is possible. Always fuse .....always.
The amp rating of the fuse depends on the total current of the circuit and the size and length of the wire. Do a search on the electrical forum or ask around. Tons of info in there. Sorry for the hijack John...but it is important.
