Sooo much easier! And free (once a month) in my neck of the wood:thumb:

Costs me an arm and a leg, or I can cut it up and they will take it at the dump in Warren. Jas I would do it once a month just cause.

Re: Oh no. Here I go again.......

Wow, where has the summer gone?? Thought I'd give an update. Been very busy. Not much work being done to the boat, And I have only had the Nassau out once!! Next week end I get to go fishing with Nassau though. This weekend was the first chance in awhile that I got to work on the Holiday. I have some photo's, as we all like the photo's. Sorry no paint scheme photo's yet, that still under wraps, as I want to have some fun.

On a side note, I finally finished selling the last of that free glasser I murdered, on craigslist. Made a total of $850! Plus I parts that Scavenged for myself for the Holiday. All said and done my Holiday, will be mostly free.

First up Home made Bunk Glides. 1/2" King Starboard. Purchase on Ebay for $48 ripped and rounded the egdes. Put carpet at ends to soften the initial load on.

Second, on the done list. Decking fitted. Needs to be sealed w/epoxy yet. But I need to GULVIT first.

I have one question, however. The boat is quite a bit narrower that the previous boat. The brackets (angle iron welded to the frame where the step boards will go), for the guide-ons are quite a ways away from the sides of the boat, 7 1/2". My question is, for those w/ similar trailers, is, How close are side guide-on boards to the boat, when its on the trailer?

I like them to be about 2" wider than the boat. Maybe a little tighter so that they hold the boat straight and fairly close to the centerline of the trailer. I would get the boat on the trailer when it's time and make some spacers to move the guide-on boards closer to the hull. That angle iron is pretty sturdy looking and have lots of room to bolt spacers to.

Thanks GA. looks like I'll need 6 inches of spacer, that would put it at 1 1/2'' of clearance on each side. I'll have see what I can come up with. Fairly rigid having the welded angle iron. I had to straighten one of them that was bent, along pipe bent it back somewhat easily, then I used my bench vise to straighten out the waves from bending.

Transom fitted and ready for sealing. Started removing all the old mastic and glue from the inside of the hull too. Not bad for an afternoons worth of work. Now I just need another free afternoon.

Hey! What was your process for getting the carpet glue off? It looks great....

Djpeters,

I used a $10 - 4 inch angle grinder from Harborfrieght with a wire wheel. That mastic/glue/or what I think it is..... is contact cement, is some really hard to get off stuff, and they used it every where on my boat there was a crap load of it. The wire wheel was the most efficient, however, there are still little bits here and there, because your limited with the size of the wheel in that it can't get into small place with a 4 inch wheel. I tried stripper, scraping, wire wheel worked the best for me. The surface will show swirls but mine will be all covered anyway.

Hope this helps, good luck

Was the glue yellowish in color? Mine is on very thick as well. I tried a wire wheel but it just seemed to smear. The best I found to work was a 40 grit sanding disc on an orbital sander. Can't wait til I'm done with this part...

finally getting caught-up to your entire thread tgp***!

That console vinyl work is inspiring!! The same attention to detail is carrying over to the trailer....can't wait to see how this one turns out.

thanks BF16

You could be waiting awhile to see this one finished. Its amazing how much bigger it is than the Nassau. Deeper, wider. Seems like twice as much work and twice as many materials are needed, than the 16 footer.

Time is a rare commodity for me right now. Just not enough hours in a day. I did order my Gluvit though. I need a break from work, so this weekend I'm heading up to Lake Wissota w/ the Nassau. I really looking forward for ride in the boat and some fishing time. Hope to work on a couple small things to make it seem like I'm getting something done.

Question. I'll need to run the air duct hose but have no idea on what was there because it was gone when I gutted the boat. For some reason unkown to me, it had 4 of the air scoops. photo's attached.

Any thoughts? Maybe run the 2 side ones up under the deck??

Hmmmmm, topside fuel tanks, outboard......

I can't figure out what the heck are we venting here? Eh?

Yes, the tank was topside. There was some old wire coil in the old crumbled flotation. Maybe they used to try to dry out the water holing foam they used. Unless the guy who was was work on it thought it was going to be an I/O.

I'll try to research it. Anyone know the corrected terminology for those air scoops?

Yah, unless you really like the "look" of the scoops I'd go ahead and skip em.

Different manufacturers use different terms

cowl vent
clam shell vent
air vent
air scoop
deck ventilator
deck vent

all had hits showing similar....

Some include a backer:

Some don't:

If you zoom in on the port gunwale vent, it looks to be factory. And it looks like it has a snout below the gunwale to attach a duct too.

Based on the windshield alone, mine seems to be the same vintage as yours, no vents:

IDK why they're there, but if they won't interfere w/ your use of the boat, fishing or skiing, make them functional to ventilate below the splashwell, not below decks. Ducting air below decks, unless you baffle the vent to prevent rain/splash water from getting below decks, doesn't sound like a great plan. Even if you don't go pour in foam, and have a well draining hull back to the bilge pump. Why direct water there, ya know?

Re: Oh no. Here I go again.......

I found a something on hull venting, humidity, mold, the obvious things for under the deck. I'll look into what I need to do to baffle the forward facing vents (I could turn them the other way too, don't necessarily have to face forward) . Don't feel like trying to close up 3 inch holes. 3" corrugated at Menards will work great for vent hose ($3 for ten feet).

Gulvit's done and I put down a coat of epoxy resin on the deck, ready for my foam.

I'll put down a coat of paint on the deck before I install it. Its off to Menards!!

Thanks guys!

Below deck venting w/ corrugated from Menards! Fits perfect over the plastic nipple adapters.
