Sounds almost like when InMotion moved the Jupiter around in his yard. :) Must be Spring in the air.

Transom fitted and ready for sealing. Started removing all the old mastic and glue from the inside of the hull too. Not bad for an afternoons worth of work. Now I just need another free afternoon.

Re: Oh no. Here I go again.......

Found some time to work on the boat today. Scrubbed out the inside. Flipped it over and took a good look at the bottom of the hull. I knew it had some heavy oxidation. So, I looked at how to deal w/ it. I ran the wire brush with the grinder to remove the oxidation. Seemed to work ok.. Still shows the pitting from oxidation, but the wire brush did a pretty goo job of cleaning. It'll take some work to get it all done though. Not sure what else I can do. I'll prime w/ a self etching primer and then prime again, before paint. Put some GLUVIT or COAT IT on the inside and be done with it. Not sure it I can use that COAT IT on the outside or not.

Check out the photo's if anyone has some insight in how to smooth out the bottom w/out too much grinding let me know.

I really don't think Gluvit or Coat-it are really meant for skimming over larger areas. I think you'll end up with more trouble in the end should you go that route and the epoxy decides to crack or peel from the hull flexing. I'd hit with some high build primer and not lose anymore sleep over it.

I'm with EZ on the primer. Might take a few coats to smooth it depending on how rough it is. Since your working on the bottom, I don't think perfection is the goal. Just make it presentable. My couple of pennies anyway.

agreed with both above. you really don't want to use Coat-it on the outside; totally aside from any adhesion issues, it's impossible to keep from running and your boat will look like poop unless you spend weeks and lots of sanding pads removing the runs. want to know how i learned this? :embarassed:

I been reading about epoxy primers today. Has anyone tried any of Sherwin Williams Marine Coatings?. They make a product called Epoxy Mastic Aluminum II.

Talk to my uncle up in Hayward WI today. They still have 28 inches of ice. I guess I don't feel so bad anymore that work is slow on the Holiday. However progress has been made. Managed to plug some drill holes on the gunwales w/ some JB weld. . I getting very envious of people w/ indoor working environments. ((Not to mention my honey do list has grown lately. ))) At least I can launch and go w/ the Nassau. Maybe it is better to have MBS.

Check out the new used trailer I dragged home. Sold the Old (too short) Holesclaw for $240. Paid $190 for this one. Paid $220 for the boat and trailer originally. Nets me out at $170 for a hull and trailer.

Hull now has been sprayed w/self ectching primer. Next I'll use Rustoleum's Rusty Metal Primer. Same process as the 66' Nassau. I'm real happy w/ how the paint is holding up on the Nassau so why change.

Both of you are lucky. Being a family forum, I'll let you guess what my wife calls me when for no reason I make her mad at me. Fortunately, not often. Couldn't live without her though.

Re: Oh no. Here I go again.......

Just killed a free glasser for parts. I can't believe it. I have had no time to do much on my boat. So the first opportunity I get, and a free glasser w/ OB and trailer, pops up on CL Sunday morning. Of course I had to go get it. So I killed that sucker yesterday, and finished butchering the last of the hull tonight. I must be getting old because I'm beat. Plus worked 10 hours at my day job.. Pictures of the after math on the glasser massacre coming soon. Oh and the spoils of war that go with the mayhem. Here's the photo of that old glasser before I murdered it. Early 60' or later 50's Fabuglass. Mostly will be selling everything except for a couple Merc parts.
