The MR180 is still a lady in waiting, but getting some more work done around the house for the admiral before I jump back into the obsession...she knows if I don't get things done before I start on the boat, they won't get done until after the boat :)

Deck stairs completed, and plumber will be hooking up the gas to the new fire pit on Tuesday. Still have three exterior doors she wants painted, and the deck posts to wrap, and the landscaping to finish, and on, and on, and on...

This arrived last week as well:) My toy budget is usually a conflicted balance between boats and things that go boom. I keep on thinking what a nice 115hp this could have funded...

🤤🤤🤤 I understand your conflict... could have bought a new spotter, rifle, and bow this year instead of my boat project lol. But man that is a beautiful rifle!!! Well worth the investment.

I am glad my Admiral doesn't get on here much. Otherwise you would be getting me in trouble with the home projects you did. Looks really nice!!!

Not much to update as other projects and kids activities are still on the front burner, but I did get the '82 70hp Mercury sold over the weekend and now have an empty motor stand awaiting it's replacement. I've missed out on two different 115hp due to logistics/distance with them both selling before I could get to them. Crazy market here in MN at the moment and hoping it slows down once the boating seasons rolls to an end. Goal is to have the rebuild done by next spring, so I have some time to find a nice 90-115hp.

On another note - Arauco ACX 1/2" 4x8 sheets are now $79.20 locally, with Roseburg 1/2" 4x8 AB sanded Marine Plywood at $78.31. Any reason not to go with the Marine ply at this point? Anyone's magic ball have an outlook on what these lumber prices will do in the next 6 months or so?

How much motor are you looking for? I see a '98 115 OMC in Elk River and a '84 185 OMC in Hudson.

Something prop rated, with trim, and standard BIA bolting pattern. I'd love to find a 90hp or 115hp '84-87 Mercury as I am familiar with all the maintenance on them. My last two motors were both '87 Mercs, so I now know my way around the impellers, fuel pumps, carbs, switchboxes, triggers, stators, coils, controls, wiring, and pretty much everything else that goes along with troubleshooting and swapping out all those parts. I have zero experience with OMC/Johnson/Rude, put I'd assume they all work pretty much the same.

I'm tempted to just put a new motor on order with hopes of having it arrive by next spring, but I'd much rather find something for 1K-$1500 that I am comfortable enough to keep running over the years.

+1 for find a motor you can work on

Don't get me wrong, I would love a new motor, but I also love the ability to do my own work and fix the engine as things come up.

Especially with the backups at marine mechanics. Seems like the guys with new engines get down for weeks if something happens.

MN, are you the one going to look at a older 150 tower in Coon Rapids tonight? It sounds promising.

I got a PM that said it was sold, I responded at 6:30 am and wasn't quick enough, not that I need another laying around, and a 150 is different.

Stung a bit with today’s prices, but also rationalized the use of AB Marine Fir over the ACX Pine. Holding off on templating the casting deck until I know If I’m going to modify it or not. On a side note, an empty motor stand doubles as a handy little sheet goods stand. 👍🏻

Time to make some sawdust. Should almost pack it up and sell it in little baggies to recoup some of the cost. 😁

Two is one, and one is none, right? Picked these two up yesterday, both 115hp, one a 1984 and the other a 1982 (although the skins/decals are the '84-'85 type). Came with three 6 gallon tanks, extra props, manuals, stands, and many extras. Looks like all the core electrical components are interchangeable, as well as many others. Based on my research, the '82 would still be crank rated, however I have also read that serial#'s over 5829464 were prop rated and essentially the old 140hp block. This '82 is serial# 6007313, so could potentially be prop rated as well. The '84 would be prop rated, so it'll be interesting to see where the differences are between the two. Racerone...may need you on this one:)

Any idea what this fitting is for? Something to do with cooling? Located between the top three and lower three plugs. It isn't currently attached to anything.

I didn't get any pictures or videos of myself and the 72yo seller trying to load all this in the back of my minivan in 95 degree heat... quite the circus.
