Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics
We recently did a transom on an identical boat... looks like you have an MFG Edinboro there. Or at the very lease a Niagara. All glass body and stringers, except for the transom which was steam formed ply with planks. Ours looks like it turned to compost some time around 1982. There is in fact a curve, which we preserved by tracing on to a 2 x 4 which we split down the trace line and used as a clamp at the top of the transom while it cured.
We used two layers of 3/4" 6 layer oak ply. The forward section was almost one continuous piece, the aft layer was made up of about 6 vertical sections which were chamfered at the lower edge to fit in to that tapered pocket. We epoxied as we went, covering each piece in 207 and we hammered the last center section in keystone style. After curing and trimming I'm fairly confident the transom is stronger than the one that was in this boat new.
Now that we got the 50 horse sorted it absolutely flies. This boat is my friend's dad's and he has me looking for two more hulls for each of us!
