Oh whew, looked like the whole boat was going to be full of gas with the color coding going on... My laptop monitor doesn't differentiate the colors of the boat and tank.

Battery in the bow and one in the stern?

No worries J, I was kind of on the same page as your train of thought except the 16ss has a huge 18 gallon tank and the bench had to be built that high. Specifically its 10 5/8" high, and the whole top is hinged for storage with stringers for support underneath, additionally I kept the sliders for access all the way to the back of the bilge.

My thoughts are you have twin girls who are going to be on the boat with their dad I think you need to build one more seat in there somewhere. I had kind of thought about putting the fuel tank where you are but you have the bilge to contend with doing it that way which makes you push the tank even farther forward taking up more floor space. Move it to the port side, and the battery on the starboard side and the weight should balance pretty well while allowing you to move the fuel tank back and opening more floor space.

What in the carp happened to my work bench/recycled air hockey table?

Sry, stole it off the LUND site, and just moved some things around. Your battery placement sounds perfect. One for starting, one/two for troller.

I also have a Starcraft 16 SS, and your rear bench/sliding door model is perfect, and is what I think I will be doing. That boat is next on my list....and your bench looks awesome. Especially since my SC will be more of a family boat, with some fish-ability. Problem with the SN is, the sides are not near as high as your SC, and I have to lower the seats so ppl dont fall off the boat!

Good thoughts on moving things around, and to balance the weight out. I could put another seat next to the capn's chair....I will have to ponder this tomorrow when I am caffeinated, and maybe "paint" some more. Heck it will be Friday.

As for your work bench/recycled air hockey table...I got a little carried away. I kind of blacked out there for a minute and next thing I know, I was air brushing all over your garage. :noidea:

I've got a couple 12 gallon aluminum tanks with no home if your interested in making one of them into a permanent tank. They have sight levels but a guy could put in a sender and use a dash gauge.

I got them in the Chief deal although they weren't installed in it ever, another boat on the lot must of been the tank donor but they got tossed up in the cuddy of the Chief. THe dimensions are - 10" wide x 10" deep x 28" long and add 2 1/4" to the deep for the filler neck. I'm still trying to figure out a way to get one of them installed in my SN, it would have been easy if I didn't have her all finished up. So I have a spare tank that is just taking up space in the garage right now.

Oh yeah I have a pic too... All welded and not corroded at all. A guy could cut a hole in the top deck for the filler neck and hose.

Guys you can't ship a used gas tank.

I think your plan of attack sounds great now stopping typing and get working.

There hasn't been a drop of gas inside these tanks in 20 years, they don't even have a faint odor. So I could ship him a used water holding tank then. :D

10-4 --- Let's do it! That is a nice looking water tank watermann!

Yes I know I have not made near as much progress as I would have liked in the last two weeks....kinda a bummer. This past weekend was spent landscaping one day, and scoring another outboard the second day. Hope to get back at it this week.

My neighbor picked up this boat for free last summer, with hopes in restoring it. Then he realized how much time and money it would be, so he just wants it gone NOW....but said I could grab the motor/controls/steering first. So I starting tearing it down, got the motor and controls out so far. That steering may not be coming off...not sure.

69 Johnson V4 115 - Hydro Electric Shift (unfortunately) Cant complain when it's free.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, I will have a free Fabuglas Speed Boat hull & trailer available this weekend! :D

How's this trailer compare to the one under your SeaNymph?

Nice score on the free OB. Plus you've garnered some appreciation from your neighbor's Admiral who likely had a hand in him giving it all to you.

It is the almost same exact trailer, but worse shape. Good thinking tho. And yea you are right...she probably had a thing or 10 to say about that boat sitting there all year LOL.

NICE score man. When you dig into that motor if it has problems let me know, I may have some spare parts in the shop that will fit it. I ran the dog crap out of two of those HYDRO shifts I wouldn't sweat it at all. Anyparts I have and you need let me know they are yours for the measly cost of shipping and possibly a beer the next time I am up in Detroit.

Thanks Sig! That's awesome...and I would happily oblige on the brews! That makes me feel better too, as that is now the 2nd hydro shift I own. The one I plan on puttin on this build is the 50 HP hydro. Any tips and tricks with these? I know you cannot change from D to Neutral unless the motor is running? Does that sound right? While turning over my 50, the prop was spinning even tho the controls said N.

So does the Fabu-gack have a gas tank in it other than a plastic 6 gal? You can PM me your address for the aluminum water tank.

Yes you can't shift it until attempting to start the engine. Sounds like it is stuck in limp home mode, hydro electrics actually stay in forward gear as a fail safe to get you home. I actually have a complete 50 hp lower unit I think missing the solenoids, funny enough I have a set of repaired solenoids too.

The first thing I would do is change the gear oil, when you do so make sure you only use OMC type C or premium blend.

Get a jumper wire with alligator clips and run one end from the hot side of the starter solenoid ( any constant hot will work) Look on port side of the engine you will see two wires coming out of the port side from underneath the exhaust manifold there should be a blue and green wire. Take the jumper wire and run from the hot to the blue wire and the green wire. When the hot touches you should hear a click in the lower unit. One wire energized shifts the lower unit out of forward and into neutral (I can't remember off hand if it is the blue or green) when both wires are energized the lower unit shifts into reverse. Either way you go about it first touch the hot to the blue you will hear one click then touch the hot to the green you will hear one click touch both and you will hear both click.

You don't need a ground the solenoids are self grounded into the lower unit. That isn't the OMC repair manual way of testing but it will tell you if you have solenoid problems.

There are actually two different types of solenoids and they do not interchange one for the earlier years one for the later years earlier years use a spring system on the bottom of the solenoids later years have a shift rod running through them to the oil pump.

Do not remove the solenoids from the lower unit unless you absolutely have to they are a serious PIA to get lined back up as a matter of fact I couldn't do it the Admiral actually did it. 1968 1/2 -1970 used the earlier solenoids 1971-1972 used the later model solenoids.

I'll stop by and pick up all your fishing gear, you won't really need it for a while. I'll keep it in good running shape fur ya:thumb:

Oh hey, go ahead and flare the other side. Your 5200 won't mind a bit:joyous:

Well Jas was right! Been pretty busy with zero work done on the boat. I wanted to swing in and keep this thread going, say HI to you all, and get some boativation back cause I need some! Hope to get somewhere soon on it. We will be moving next month, and I wanna have further completion.
