Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I like the white/green idea. If your painting it other than original then you may as well go with matching your boat. I would change the pinstripe theme on it though. Maybe just a wrap around straight. None of that up and down like it is now. White motor, black 85, and maybe 3 green strips, close together, wide and a wrap around. Its hard to describe what I'm picturing. Can't see through the fog..lol. I know whatever you do, it will be awesome anyway.

GT , looking forward to what ya come up with !
TC , I can picture just what you mean . I think a black stripe would go well with the black r/r and the black stripe on the gunwale shelf . Maybe green black green and the # on back centered just above the wider stripes ..

BTW, the font for the lettering is supposed to be one that I found online...it's called, "Airstream"...I thought is was kind of appropriate...
I just had to wing it when drawing it cause I could figure out how to make it look right on the cover without 'skewing' it...

A man of many talents that GT is ! I do like the concept . Maybe not the black top . Keep it all green then add 2 white stripes on top stopping at the black stripe on the back . Ohh and change the 50 to an 85 .. :D

Some great ideas GT. I like the last picture there. Except change the colours the other way. White cowl with the green coming in the middle of the cowl on top to the back. Lose the side stripe and put your Force 85 in Black. Maybe even run the stripe down the back of the motor. ?? What is wrong with that Chrysler in the background SP?

I can,t get any spark . I tried many things a while back on the Chrysler forum got frustrated then started working on the boat . I still plan on giving it another go . I really like the looks of it better than the other but no ptt . Much less work to get the force ready..

GT , thanks man for all the conceptual idea's ! I drew something up on pb but for some reason it would not save . The second from the last is kinda growing on me ! :)

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Seems like it's been raining here for a solid week ! :rain: The yard is a total mess .. So I finally got started building the jumpers . Got almost everything cut out and the piping made until I ran out of thread . I can't believe I have gone through a whole big spool . Gunna stop by the trimjobber place and pick up another spool tomorrow . Just barely had enough green to finish . It's still very rough around the edges but here is what I got..

Looks kinda funny with the splash side cut to fill in the different angle . Maybe I should have not done the stripe and just made it solid white . I will finish one completely and then see how it looks ..
OK now I got an engine paint prep question ..
The cowling has some sort of clear coat over the paint . Do I sand the c/c or use some type stripper to remove ?

Looks great... I still can't believe you fabbed up that jump seat/splashwell contraption... It is too cool...

I would not have even noticed the off-centered stripe had you not mentioned it... I think it looks fine (and sort of cool)... I would try to keep the stripe, just so it will match the other seats, and continue that nice them you have working...

However, its your boat and if its going to bother you every time you look at it, then I can't argue with that...

What about losing that flared edge on the bottom seat and leaving a gap between the seat and the splashwell assembly? You could fab up a little cup holder or something in there?

Send me a PM on the Chrysler info. Model# Serial# Year, HP etc.. My BIL KNOWS Chrsler OB's He Grew up with em. He might be able to tell you what to do. On the rear seat you might want to Flair it so it's bigger on the front than the back or angle it towards the center. To me it looks a bit ODD but Hey I'm a Bit ODD!!! I'd Use some of this to strip the clear coat etc off the cowling...

I thought about that but it's kind of a narrow seat so I figured the more butt space the better . My plan was to make a nice cup holder to attach to the front of the splash . Maybe out of wood and stained . Then make the support legs for the recliner's to match out of wood . I think a touch of stained wood would look nice ..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks for the tip on the clear coat Woody !
As for the Chrysler , I have an old thread link at the bottom of the page that has all the info and every thing I have tried so far on it .
I am sure it can be figured out but I just need to find the time and dig in a little more . Mechanical stuff is definitely my weakest link ..

I like the way it looks and I believe when you get the other seat done, it should balance out the offset...
I also, think a touch of some nicely stained and glossed wood trim pieces would look really classy...

There's a teak vendor on ebay, teakhutonline

They're in FL, might score some teak to make a cupholder out of. Or find a deal on a pre-made rack/holder. Lots of teak stuff @ebay.

Step pads from a large cruiser might be large enough to fab something else out of them.

On the offset cushion & white stripe: I think like many aspects of a resto, YOU are intimately aware of every little facet. Defects/trash in the finish, design decisions that aren't just right, fit & finish that might have needed 1 more pass while sanding or paint prepping. In totality, 95% of the people viewing this rig will be absolutely fascinated w/ how awesome it looks. So if it's more then you can stand, make a change.

The angle is slightly askew, but here's a rendering w/ 2 jump seats

SP seat.jpg

If you minimize the curved front to the bottom cushion, and made it more squarish at the front, I think the offset wouldn't be as prominent.

I think it looks great! Even in the skewed rendering
