Lanier? In Dawsonville?

Yep , thats the place . I have just read a bunch of complaints about them and would not recommend buying a boat from them . I was just looking for parts . Not sure how that would turn out..

I drove thru & spent the night in Dawsonville, 3months before I found Iboats

Looks like a giant shipwreck graveyard, might find some interesting stuff if you have a week to wander around......................

I wondered about the parts for sale, motors & etc seem high for some of the projects. Boats w/out trailers, motors &/or windshields for way more then I'd give for them............

Ok , seeing as this is my best and or only option for an O/B at this time what do you guy suggest I do with it ? Just clean it up or repaint it ..

Maybe a quickie paint job without breaking it all down ? All white with maybe some green accents ..

^^ yep

Unless its a great running motor.

Then lots of attention 1st, once it's on the boat & running ya around ON THE WATER (kind of the whole point..) it may be tough to pull it out of service & dry dock the boat again.

Esp once you start wrenching necks & causing fender benders w/ all the attention it's gonna get....

Double ditto^^^^...
If its a solid runner, maybe needs a bit of the usual maintenance, impeller?, carb work?, tuning?, lube & oil services?
I would jump on it...
If it looks like its gonna be a budget sink hole...? ...then run it till it blows while looking for a decent replacement...

PS- now that you mention the place in Dawsonville, Ga. for parts...yeah, I have seen their stuff advertised and have read the same reviews about 'em...looks like a great place to look for projects or parts, anybody expecting to get a good, solid, useable boat from there should really join Iboats and do some serious homework...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Thanks guys . All I know about how well it runs is the few hrs I have spent with it in the yard and we also took it out on the water for about an hour . It ran great with no issue's . The only problem that I have seen and the po pointed out is every now and then when you try and restart the throttle will be closed to much and it will not get fuel . So you click the linkage back a tad then it fires right up .
The impeller has about 3 yrs on it so I will change it out and I am going to add a tell tail to it just for visual piece of mind ..
Carb and tuning I will not touch . Gunna leave that to a professional cuss ya don,t want me screwing with it that's for sure !

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Got a few thing done today . After working on the lawn mower for a while I touched up all nicks and scrapes that I put on the trailer while readjusting the bunks . I lowered the stern down 1-1/2 " and moved the middle bunks out to the next strake . I did not like the way it was so close to the keel . Weighed the trailer the other day 460 lbs . Prolly weighed a bit more because we did not unhook it from the truck . At least now I can go get it legal . Scavenged the stern light from the donor boat . Just a couple of pits on the chrome receiver .
Gotta dig out all my sewing stuff and make those jumpers .
I also put the donor back on it,s trailer today . All by my self with no help ! It was actually a piece a cake . Then I blocked the whole thing up a bit so I could put the foot in a tub to run it . The muffs just don't work that well I think I need some better ones . Of coarse the battery was dead so I got it on charge . I think the first thing I want to do is install the tell tail . From there I guess change the impeller.
I was pretty lost with all the glassing and painting until you all coached me up and I was able to muddle through the structural and cosmetic stuff . Now I am at the part where I am least comfortable with my ability . I guess it's time to jump in and learn a thing or two ! :)
Hope everyone is having a great weekend !

Thru hub 2cyl exhaust, so not clean clear water, but milky? IDK............

Yeah, I gotta agree, looks more cloudy than milky...seems to be just exhaust...
Sounds pretty solid...I would definitely replace the impeller and if you can get a tell tale hooked up, great...
After you replace the impeller, let it idle for a few minutes, rev it lightly after about 3 minutes of warm up, but not too much over 2000rpm...just for a couple of seconds...then let it idle again for a minute or two, light rev, back to idle, and shut it down...try and repeat that every few days until you get it hooked up and ready for the water...
That will help to get all the reeds, seals, rings, etc...used to some heat cycles and help to "free" things up...sort of like a break in period for a fresh motor, but more like a wake up period... try getting some Amsoil Marine 2 cycle oil to mix with the gas...I have found that it runs cleaner and smoother, than with the recommended manufacturers stuff...you might also want to run some premium fuel in it for the wake up runs...the slightly higher octane will help to cushion the combustion while everything inside starts coming back to life...
You can also check the health of the engine after a few runs by taking a compression check...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Yep jbc, GT , I think your right it was just cloudy . After a few minutes it cleared right up . I got the yard cut for the Admiral then I went for an afternoon surf session . Have not paddled out in a while it felt great to get knocked around a bit on a few 4 footers ! Got back and ran it for a while longer just to make sure the thermostat opens up . Opened and was flowing ok from what I could tell . I could touch the cylinder head and it was good and warm but did not burn my hand . Thanks for the tips on the impeller ! I can get the ethenal free fuel at our local station . A tad more expensive but worth it in the long run I suppose .

The ethanol laced gas is really only a problem if you have old style fuel lines, instead of the new-fangled ones that are ethanol resistant, the ethanol in the fuel can destroy the inner lining of the old rubber fuel lines and create havoc in your boats' fuel system...
AND if the gas sits for long periods of time without use, the water in the alcohol can separate out of the fuel, sink to the bottom and get sucked up first through the fuel line... this can be prevented by either using an additive like "Star Tron" or going fishing more often...;)
Another tip is to shake the boat a lot if it has sat for a long time and re-mix the water back into the fuel { I have only heard about this, not sure of it myself...}, or get a water separator for the fuel line...
I just mentioned this because eventually "big brother" will be forcing all NON-ethanol fuels out of the market...plus the fact you may be out boating in a different part of town and need to get more fuel, you might only be able to score the ethanol stuff...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

All good points GT thanks !
I picked up my impeller today and the stuff to make the tell tail . Of coarse I got the wrong size npt barbed fitting .
Anyway I would like you guys opinion on paint scheme . I am thinking just paint the whole motor white and get some new stickers just like the originals but maybe instead of the blue stripes make those black along with the numbers . And then change the red to a slightly different shade of green . The bottom green matches the cap paint about perfect . I also like the US Marine stickers it would be nice to replace those maybe in black .

I do have a few more idea's in my head just have not convinced the hamster one way or the other yet.
If ya can think of anything that would look good let me know . I,m open to all suggestions except maybe an image of Darth Vader ya know going with the Force thing and all ....... ... I'm such a nerd !
