Bench seats along the gunnels ? Hmmmmmmm.
Run em down and curve around transom up to small splashwell.
Hey I stopped by the tractor supply store and got a gal of the valspar primer. If I git the H/T ready I may turn it grey this weekend:)
They had some paint called restoration tractor and implement. It also had a hardener with it.
Anyone ever use this paint it,s about 18 bucks more per gal than the other.

That's some quality paint but the Valspar Tractor Paint is plenty good to use with the hardner. I researched Valspar pretty extensively and the MSDS on their Regular Tractor Paint and the Restoration paint is pretty similar. I forget exactly what the difference was but it wasn't something that made me want to pay the difference.

I,m with ya on the paint Wood..
What,s your take on the under side of the H/T .
It has a fine cloth texture and seems would be hard to wipe down and clean.
I think I,ll paint it white. I sanded down lightly with some 100 grit and it helped
smooth out some. Maybe 2 coats primer might help?
No hardener in primer right? Gunna try to spray with co-workers hvlp gun.

Yeah they didn't bother with trying to fill the weave of the woven roving back then did they. I'd give it a good scrubbing with TSP and then Acetone and shoot it with two good coats of primer (no hardener) and then two coats of white w/hardener. You can buy a High build primer at the auto paint store that might fill it it a bit better. Not to expensive.

Hey Wood , I,m just thinking ahead a little on the hull. If I don,t feel comfortable spraying and choose roll and roll method with
my lap straight hull what would be the best way to roll? My guess would be roll perpendicular to laps with 12 " first and then
use small 4" roller running parallel to lay it flat. I still want to try and spray I guess I can practice on the H/T.
Thanks!

I can see where tipping with a brush would work good on the lap straight Wood. You used easypoxy on the BF hull . Is that a more durable paint than the oil enamel with hardener?

Nope, I found out about the Oil AFTER I bought the EP. I used it on the hull and it was ok, but I did the cap with the Oil and Hardener and I could see NO difference. I actually think the Oil might be better.

Maybe I missed it (didn't go back) but you had asked about what to paint the navigational light with. I suggest aerosol "self etching primer" and then whatever paint you want on top. A lot of those OEM lights had a thick powder-coat-type white on them. My bow cleat had that.

Just read your whole project and enjoyed what you are doing.

BTW- you had asked about screw holes: PB is probably a better choice but I have used 5 minute epoxy with some dust from my random orbit sander bag to fill screw holes with good luck.

As far as painting: flagging off the paint (tipping as some call it) is the best way of getting an amazing finish out of canned paint. Oil paints (vs. lacquers and acrylic enamels) seem hard to apply well to me- the right viscosity for spraying risks having runs when you spray it on heavy enough to level out nicely, imho. May be my experience level and never tried hvlp.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Hi Mark thanks for stopping by! Yeah the bow light and all the cleats were painted white . I think they look good white up next to the blue paint so I,ll spay em white again.
I have patched about 90% of the holes already using 3m prem filler.
I am not a painter but I do a lot of painting at work so I,m pretty good with a brush but that,s with latex. I did paint some enamel on some cabinet doors once I tried spraying it but I kept getting fisheye,s . That was with a cheap can type sprayer . I wet a brush down and flaged or tipped it in and it layed down real nice. Not sure yet witch way I,ll go with it I may try both and go with witch ever feels comfortable.

Hey sp .... you said the white looks good next to the blue paint so does that mean that you are staying with the blue instead of green or red?

Nice looking 'glass work, esp on the bow. Keeping the H/T white on the topside? Might look better to go white on the inside of it too. Not that I disagree w/ the sign toting raccoon earlier urging you to paint it grey, unless that was for the primer coat, or high build that WOG recommended for reducing the roving waffle texture.

But that's only paint, easily changed if you don't like it, esp on the H/T.....
