I suspect that a previous owner of this boat:

didn't follow the 'suggested' deck & seam plan pcford lays out here. And they choose to coat the fore & aft decks entirely in white (paint?)...

In my limited search & the fact that I REALLY like vintage wooden runabouts, pcford plan makes sense, and keeps the look & 'feel' of the mahogany & white seam decks, using more up to date, easier to maintain materials. Those decks are one of the main features I like so much about the boats....

But cotton 'rope caulking', linseed oil & white lead where probably 1 of the ways they use(d) to close those seams....

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Well on some of the info linked they suggested masking and painting the caulk joints . So technically the top was painted .. Sort of .. Somewhat ..
Well at least if I decide ta cut the cap off the MFG and replace with some awesome mahogany I,ll know how to caulk the joints . LOL! Ya know the mfg with the lapstrake hull would be a nice boat to do a WOG project ..:)

Well If I can't get the donor motor steering system working with the wheel I painted I may just need a tiller arm ..LOL!

Ok , back to the boat again .. This little caulking spatula is great . I think everyone should have one ..

Now that I almost have the duckpond drain holes took care of I need to do something with this tadpole swimming pool ..

I may form some wood to pb in place and glass over flat . Then I could screw into it if needed and not put a hole in the actual deck.
I still have a nice piece of smurf biskit I could use also ..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I like to swim but I sure don;t need any webbed fingers ! It is good to know I can make some cool stuff with the serger instead of just dresses, drapes , and curtains !
I picked up a gal of marpro gelcoat with wax today . I hope to get a coat on the deck tomorrow if all goes well . Has anyone heard of thickening the gell with cabosil or something to maybe help keep a nice texture using a texture roller . Or does this sound like a stupid idea ..
