Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

It took a minute to remember my photobucket password . Got the csm layed and will prolly glass the other side tomorrow. I think I may need to add a strip of wood on the edges where the hardware will be screwed in just to beef it up a little.

Tomorrows Friday maybe I won't have to work this weekend and can get something done on the boat!:)

Got the weekend off so I guess I'll try and get something done.. I did a very ruff fabrication of the seat hinge . It's just kinda screwed together temporary but you can get the idea

Now with it in lounge position ..

I may have to tapper the foam on the inside corner to keep it from bunching up..

And I got the csm on the inside of the ply.

Just a little tribute to all you guys that do such a great job helping out here on the forum!!

Nice shout out, S.P.

Seats are looking rad!

Since you are working on the prototype hinges for them...may I make a suggestion...

I noticed you are using nice thick foam, but...when the seats are in the lay down position...is it possible that when you roll in and out of them that you might jab yourself with the part of the hinge that sticks up...???

In other words, is there a way to make them more "low-Profile" or even like a typical door hinge...kind of like the attachment below...?

Oh yeah, and this may seem silly, but make sure you make left and right pairs......LOL

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I see where you are going with the door type hinge and I like the idea . My only concern is that I wood have to angle the both seat bottoms at a 45 degs to keep it tight together when in lay down position otherwise it would not lift to sitting position . Then you may still hit the hinge when rolling in and out . The original Fun and Sun seats had hinges similar to my proto..
The gears are still turning in my head ..... .... or is that just a hamster wheel.... .....

Yeah, I recall that most folding type seats have a hinge very much like the one you are designing...and I "see" your point about the angles and positions...hmmmm...I'll keep my squeaky hamster wheel going, too...

AHH HA!...maybe, instead of a hinge...a sort of lift to unlatch and lay flat kind of deal...I am not sure if this comes across, but almost something similar to the beach lounger, where you lift the back to lay it flat...

Ok , the hamster had to stop for a drink and some kibbles & bits . Ithink you would have to put a good locking pin or angle brace with that design cuss when you hit that first wake you may end up in the horizontal position in a hurry .. LOL  :D

Yeah, I guess you're right, the hamster may have gotten his little feet caught in the wheel and went for a whirl......LOL

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Can you invert what you have? So the hinge is on the outside of angle?

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I am going to build the bases as close to original as I can . I will prolly just use some reg swivel brackets to mount it and if the hinge sticks below the seat it may keep it from swiveling.

Did you have any of the old hinges from the old seats.
From what I see in the pics your on the right track.
If you are worried about them polking into someone, just make the piviot point a little shorter.
With all tlhe foam you have it shouldn't be to much of a problem.
Just a thought.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

There's about 1/2" of thickness in those flat swivel bases. The 'regular' black bases everybody seems to carry. Doing the jump seats, these seats & now maybe some foam fab? Consoles are already sprayed:confused: Sounds intriguing for sure

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

The originals are in the old boat yard in the sky. They rotted away then my brother put some back to backs in and they rotted away. I had a guy on the mfg forum was going to give me the hinges for at least 2 seats for 50 bucks but then he got hurt somehow and I haven't heard from him since.
I think I may lay the foam down in the hinge and see how bad it will be as is. I didn't think of doing that earlier .

I could always build some spacers for the swivel mounts.
