No doubt about it...and even if she doesn't "Fly" I'm sure you will be soaring in the clouds with a grin ear to ear :)

I'm sure you will be flying on the water and better yet you will be styling all the way from the driveway and on the water.

Yeah, I WISH I had a 70 hp on the BF. The 40hp with 2 300 pounders up front really is NOT cuttin it! I gotta figure a way to get the 70 hp Tower of Power from Andgott down in Tennessee. My son and I might have to take a trip now that Gas prices are coming down.

OK I am planning on painting this allum gunnel pocket white with a black stripe down the middle. Is this sep ok to use for this? And how should I prepare the the allum before priming? This is a scrap piece It has a textured tape on there now so I will need to get ride of the glue residue. Should I use something like goof off on that?

Not too familiar with that particular primer, but it should work...

I have read that some guys use a vinegar solution to clean the aluminum before priming???...

For aluminum I try to use Zinc Chromate Primer, has a greenish/ yellowish tint to it...but that's just me...supposed to adhere better to aluminum???

The sticky stuff on there might come off with goof-off or you might have to get a little more brutal with it...

Maybe try and cut some of off to thin it down with a single edge razor blade, or try some laquer thinner, a wire wheel, or you could use one of these in your drill...

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Try several different things, rubbing alcohol worked best on last old tape residue I needed to remove....

If it's BARE aluminum, I think it needs to be sprayed w/ Zinc Chromate 1st, some are labeled w/ just the ZC. Then that Self Etch primer should work......

The etching primer wont mess up the ZC ? I also have the valspar Oil based metal primer . The finish paint will be the valspar with hardener I guess ...

Who carry's the ZC ?

Well here's an interesting read right here on Iboats & WOG was a frequent poster

Then there's this too.... See item #10:facepalm:

There's too much info in here for me even to attempt to keep track, clearly..... And I regularly reference that How to page..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I was able to find Duplicolor's etching primer at Pep Boys pretty reasonably. Light dusting is all you really need. That Rusto stuff you got should work just fine. The only product you need to watch out for is Rusto makes this weird aluminum primer (not in rattle cans) that says it's latex on the can. I can't imagine that would be good to use.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

All you need to do is...
Go to lowe's and get some TSP(Tri-Sodium Phosphate) Mix in warm water and scrub it down. 50/50 vinegar wash down. Light Coat (should be able to almost still see the aluminum) of the SE primer. Prime with the Rustoleum Bare Metal Primer, two Coats, Wet sand final coat. Light wipe down with Acetone, Shoot Final Color Coat. Done!!!!

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

50/50 Vinegar and water ? Can I substitute Rusto Bare Metal Primer with the Valspar Oil based metal primer that I have?
BTW Tractor Supply store is fading out the Valspar paints and going with a paint called Majic . Hardener and reducer also..
Thanks !
