Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

Picked up the rest of my paint from the tractor supply on the way home. Traffic was awful ! It seems I have a slow moron magnet installed on the front of my truck! Anyway to late to start any paint tonight..
I had the idea to take my steering wheel,

and do something like this..

Ya think I can use the same Valspar paint/primer? I guess it,s made from some kind of plastic.

I see no reason why your paint won't work, especially if you are spraying it. If not spraying, then I'd go with Krylons Plasti Kote Paint. It is REALLY good stuff for plastic. Make sure which ever way you go to do a good wash down with acetone first.

Thanks Wood, the krylon is an arrisol spay paint I assume so that would be good for the white I want the middle part to match the cap paint . I doubt I could find a spray can match for the aqua marine color. Maybe I,ll check there web site..

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I have yet to deal with mine, but, I have some cracking between the wheel & the 'spokes' on both sides, so I'll need to rehab it too....

I've seen several done w/ this Por15 kit, and have found it on sale online for @ $85+/-..... If the wheel & spokes are in good shape, the paint WOG mentioned from Krylon is great on plastics...

I'd recommend a stencil for the shark & logo, free hand--not so much:)

Some print/copy shops can make them w/ lower tack vinyl, cut like they'd make the plastic cardboard "running for city council " yard signs, done as a negative so you paint the MFG & shark instead of everything else around them & lifting the vinyl to reveal the MFG & shark.

We do, last one was a buffalo & logo @ 42" diameter circle, was done as a 3pc stencil, & painted w/ 2 part epoxy concrete flooring 'paint'....

Check w/ WOG or oops, but the POR15 kit comes w/ a 'sprayer' that you load w/ your choice of paint. You may have to adjust the paint~thinner~hardener ratios, thats a question for them.

That 'system'/device is available at HD I think, and or somewhere in the marketplace close to you. Or absolutely online.

If they have the digital plotter/cutter that will do vinyl, it might help ya to send someone there a 'rough' sketch & dimensions while your on the phone w/ them or just before.

Add dimensions to your steering wheel photo, & should be good enough. If you've got a clean MFG logo for them to try & match the font, I'd send that too. You might be able to get the stern sides 'MFG' logo & or shark done w/ a stencil too, or as a peel & stick like they probably do logos for work vans: non-magnetic "Today we do windows"...

Is MFG, still building boats? If so, they may decline, copyrights & etc...

Yep, first go at roll and roll. It took a little while to figure out about half way thru I started to get the hang of it. At first it seems there was a lot of bubbles but keep working it then the sticky sound starts and it starts to lay down. When I started mixing I had one of those things you call a brain fart and I put to much acetone in . I adjusted the paint and hardener and instead of just doing the top I had just enuff paint for the under side.

Re: MFG rebuild getting started pics

I just used a Scotch Brite pad. Just enuf to knock down the nubs and scuff it up a bit. If you want to use paper 320 grit.

^^ Wet, if the paper though, correct? ^^ Scotch pad isn't very aggressive, but could certainly be used wet, I've never used one wet & don't remember it really making much dust, certainly not loading it w/ paint goobers like sandpaper does not wet.
