Do realize now why they sell so many joystick controls. If you have 8 turns lock to lock you just can not mentally remember while docking how many turns was that. Add in 4 blade cupped props so REV does grab much, and it's just hard to steer. I'm getting better, but this is going to be a chore for some time

Ya think anyone would ever say "I wish it had cable steering"?

I recall you talking about the number of steering wheel turns, lock-to-lock. I think my boat is about 4 turns lock-to-lock. I also have a 'rudder' indicator on my VesselView display, so I can see the steering angle at any moment while docking. It becomes inactive while using the joystick, since the outdrives steer independently while using the joystick.

Do you have VesselView with the Merc's ? . . . also wondering if there are some adjustments to the steering sensitivity? 8 turns sounds way to many.

I do like my joystick control for anchoring and docking. The most useful movement is the port/starboard 'crabbing', so I can slide into and out of tight docking spaces.

I have VV and it doesn't show that. Contacted Merc and asked that question and they said no. I have electric hydraulic steering

I could put one of those stick on rudder indicators that is used by inboards, might help

I will say, the first year with a new ( or new-2-you) boat seems like a lot of learning, trial & error, and fine tuning. My boat felt like a foreign object last year. This year is much better.

I think (hope) you will find the same as time goes on.

Hope so, but went from Rinker 232 to Furmula 27PC and never ran into this kind of stuff. It's like someone that never drove a boat before some times

Yes, it is all the 'dumb' stuff that boats have now to make it 'easier' for the novice or casual boater. It makes things more complicated than they really need to be IMO.

Maybe the casual boater just needs a computer to enjoy boating..I like my old boat more every day..I really couldn't find any love in the new boats..Too old!

What size orbitrol at the helm? Can probably tighten the steering up if we change orbitrol

That might be an option, don't know how boat is rigged with the Verado's

Still need to get behind the helm to do other things, need to look into it

I was just reading in one of my many Mercury manuals that Vessel View has a ‘personality profile’ that gets loaded by the boat manufacturer giving the system the unique characteristics as deemed by the manufacture. The number of steering wheel turns lock-to-lock is part of the personality profile.

hard to believe that Chappy would have it set to 8 turns.

Went to change the oil for first time and noticed 2 items are broke on the starboard motor under the cowling. Has a plastic cover over part of the exhaust which has maintenance label on it. One of the tabs is broken and the clamp that holds the motor connector is also.

My guess is dealer was installing motor and didn't do it right and things got broke on the first one, did better on the port side
