Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

Before I begin, I just want to extend my thoughts and prayers to any and all who have been affected by the recent storms...

Well, a new day has dawned, and a new chapter is being written...

I suppose that when they say, "every cloud has a silver lining" they were talkin about the last few days I have been experiencing...

Usually one gets down in the dumps because of many factors and it can really make for a depressing outlook on life...

We get into a funk and think there is no end in sight to the tribulations we constantly face...

Then, without warning or fanfare, even if just for a little while, things take a sudden and favorable upward turn for the better...

And that is what has happened to me...

First, I recieved a little birthday cash from my BEST half [My Loving, Caring, Understanding, and Encouraging Wife], and my Dear Sister...

Secondly, my super neighbor comes through with the deal of the century[see below]...

Then yesterday afternoon, I get a call from my fishing buddy...he says, "Hey wanna go fishin tomorrow"...I say, "Sure, why not"

That's when I decided to spend a BassPro gift certificate, I had recieved for Christmas from my Awesome SIL...and pick up a new rod and reel I had my eye on...

So, as I'm walking out the door, I get a call from a guy, wanting to know if I still had the old distributor from my truck for sale...
YES, I said...
Where you located, he asked,...
Miami, says me...
OH, I'm in Palm Beach, he says...
That's OK, you wanna meet at BassPro, almost exactly halfway between the both of us, says I...
Yeah, that'd be great, He says...

Sooo...I go, I buy, we meet, he buys...then the rest of the story...

...The trailer that came with my boat was not the original trailer, nor was it even close to being correct for my style boat...

I have been looking for ways to modify it to fit, or buy one that would be correct, but both options were running into the several hundreds of dollars range and looking quite unreachable for the foreseeable future...

Well, as luck would have it, Bass Pro Shops recently had a big sale and had a bunch of trade-in trailers on the lot...

Lo and behold, the perfect bass boat trailer sitting there waiting just for me, but wait, how much...they couldn't say because the computer and the paperwork don't match, the price isn't written down, etc, etc...
I figured, just as well, probably way outa my league...
Anyhow, left my phone number and told 'em to give me a call when they found out how much...

This Sunday Morning, me and my buddy go fishing and have a good time but no fish...driving home, I get a call from BassPro..
Hey, that trailer you were asking about, they want 300.00 for it...

I almost lost control, I was so freakin thrilled...sorta felt weird, like that first kiss or something, I don't know, but I was ecstatic, elated even...

Between a few bucks I had left from my materials purchase and my B-day cash...I am now the proud papa of the perfect trailer for the "Bassassin"!

Sorry for the long winded litany, but I just had to write it all down for future reference and to know that it really happened and hasn't all been a dream...

I have bookmarked this post, so in the future, when I feel like the whole world is out to get me, I will read this and realize that even bad stuff, eventually gets a shot of the goodsh!t...

Here's a pic of the OLD trailer...you'll start to see why it is completely wrong for this boat, when you see the new/used one...

This thing is a beauty...Completely Galvanized, Disc Brakes, Bearing Buddy's, Swing away jack, 3000 pound capacity...even has some nice ALUMINUM diamond plate steps, REEVITED on...:p
Man-O-Man, what a score.
Just needs some new bunks, few bits of hardware replacement, Check/redo the wiring...

I am not going to be able to sleep for a month...

Hope everyone had a productive weekend and may your workweek be fast...

Awesome story... can I borrow your horseshoe for a bit? Can you rub it 3 times and ask that my transom magically finish itself? And, if there is any juju left, some stringers would be nice too...

As the prophet Norm (from Cheers) said, "Its a dog eat dog world and I feel like I am wearing milk-bone underwear." Glad the momentum is swinging the other way for you... You deserve it.... Thanks for sharing your story.

Now what is that I see next to the trailer? Doesn't look like the Bassassin to me...

Consider the horseshoe and the Genie bottle rubbed, may all the good juju flow freely among all my Iboats brethren...

Thank you for your support

Brother, Cloud 9 looks like a teeny-tiny cotton ball from as high up as I am right now...just wait till I start sucking up those poly fumes...;)

That "bayliner" in the background, I wish I could claim as MBS, but it actually belongs to my Captain Neighbor...

County came by many years ago and told him he could not park his boat in the front yard...since he has no side yard to speak of, he put it in storage up until about 2-3 years ago when they closed up shop and he had no place to put it that it wouldn't cost him an arm and a leg, so I offered my side yard, in full view of any and all Government bodies, but in full compliance with their ridiculous laws and bylaws, free of charge...unfortunately I think the poor thing will be headed for the landfill, cause its been weathered for countless years...really sad, cause this is one of the early Bayliner that was built like a Brick you know what...

Thanks JC, I guess for the time being I am the windsheild and not the bug...
or the hammer and not the nail...;)

Heck I might even send in that Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes entry...and buy a lotto ticket, how 'bout that...then if I win, I will be more than happy to swing by and lay hands on both the glass and tin vessels...

Wow!!!! Just wow GT1M! You're luck is certainly turning. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy though, imho. That trailer is a great score and I bet you can sell the old one for enough to put new bunks on the new one.

Glad you had a great weekend!

Re: Love, Necessity and Pride

that new trailer definitely has enough bunk brackets!..I assume you'll be removing a few? Awesome score though. looks like it will carry whatever you want to put on it! Don't let the Cap'n throw that boat away...you will be needing a new project soon!

Nice score on the trailer GT !
Sorry about the boats that can't stay in the yards without the neighborhood poe poe coming after ya. I could turn one into a planter box in my area and no one would care at all. A guy down the road uses an old hull to keep his garbage cans safe from the garbage hounds!!

Thanks Craig, that is exactly what I am hoping...sell the old to refurb the new...
BTW...keep me in the loop if you are going to be in the hood...I would be more than ready, willing and able to help you score some boat glassin booty...

Actually, the number of bunk brackets are perfect for this style boat...almost like it was made for it...
And yeah, The thought has crossed my mind more than once...it sure is a nice family cruiser...

I was thinking the same thing!:D

Thinking is what usually gets me in trouble in the first place...hmmmm, let me think about that...

Nice score on the trailer GT !

Yeah, and to think, when I first moved into this hood, almost 20 years ago...my first criteria was that there be NO homeowners association...well there still isn't, but the County acts as a surrogate homeowners association for everybody...
I am so glad I pay lots of taxes to keep such nice folk employed...

Awesome Gus!!!!!:D
Dave

Thanks Dave, keep on getting the ankle healed, Bro!

That new trailer looks rock solid buddy:)

That's what I thought, too...when I first saw it...
Hope you had an awesome B-Day!!!

Wow, your old trailer was inadequate for sure. That new one is sweet! Rehabbing a trailer is a giant pain in the butt and you've totally sidetracked that. Excellent score.
