Re: Love, Necessity and Pride
hey GT its been awhile since ive posted, ive got the85 glasstream boss 180te,and i think im going to attempt to do this fall what your doing now, just wondering how difficult was it to remove the cap,was there alot to it?also i did score a motor,(finally, one of my biggest worries, cause you cant run a boat without one)i picked up an 1987 85 hp force, never seen salt water, and starts on the 1st attempt, the guy took great care of it,and with the controls, wanted only 500.00 for it,i couldnt believe it,so now things are moving along.Your doin an outstanding job on you restore,im learning alot from you, thx, and keep posting pictures, have a great evening, ttyl.
Hi bungee,
Great news, Bro...awesome score on the Force...make sure you do all the maintenance on it to keep it nice and healthy...
Pullin the cap was really not that big of a deal, just gotta think it through...
If you read through the very beginning of my thread, actually look at the pics, more than anything, it will give you a pretty good idea of what's involved.
I did it completely by myself, and it took the better part of an afternoon...that of course doesn't include stripping all the tons of carp, like cleats, rod holders, engine, controls, disconnecting the wiring, etc., etc...
The other thing that took a while was removing the 7,835,162 screws that hold the rubrail and the hull and cap together...
The gantry's I literally threw together from a bunch of scrap lumber and drywall screws I had on hand...you'll need two...
I used some heavy duty ratchet straps to lift the cap, and then pulled the hull with the trailer out from under and set the cap down on some horses...
If there's anything specific you want to know about, either holler at me on this thread or PM me.
I'll be glad to help anyway I can...
Best Regards,
Gus
PS- you can also go to my photobucket and look through the pictures there...
