I went out today and bought my own spray gun for doing bedliner and undercoating.I fail to see why this cant be used for epoxy sealer as the bedliner is about the same consistency. For cleanup you use xylene..When i get my fasco epoxy im going to give it a shot.

Interesting, I use an Earlex 5500 for most of my spraying, but I know it can't handle epoxy and the bedliner. Very interested to see how you think it works and if you can spray it successfully

I am going to leave it as is ,i strictly fish so i feel that it will be best for me to leave it like it is.If it seems slippery i might add traction strips .IM not a fan of carpeting at all but the option would be open to vinyl if needs be .The boat will easly be able to be stripped of consul if its necessary in the future to change or alter the flooring.I came from a cedarstrip boat that was highly varnished and i never slipped .

Carpeting helps quiet your footsteps, which means less unfamiliar noise transmitted into the water, which means fewer spooked fish.

I am going out to look around at supplies so i will keep that in my poor overheated mind.Theres truck bed liner on the bottom of the boat from previous owner.Asked fasco if it was ok to apply over and answer was only if liner was epoxy based.I know where the liner came from so im going to check.Let me tell you that stuff is tuff.

New! Invincible boats made by Rhino Lining are up to a 1/4" thick! Guaranteed to never chip, break, or sink, even when hitting icebergs!

I'm visualizing the epoxy sticking together in streams and strands and flying all over in a horrible sticky mess. Can you record it so we can see how well it does/doesn't work?

THE epoxy is no different in consistency than the bedliner and theres no glass in the epoxy. But i see your point in wanting to watch the show but if it doesnt work it will be an r rated program, lol.SHSU that gun is used all the time by shops to do undercoating and bedliners. My biggest problem i forsee is getting my speed right and form.Stay tuned for a success story or total disaster,so i will only mix a small amount of the epoxy so if its a failure im only out a few drops ,but i forsee success.

82,
I am really hoping this works for you. I prefer spraying my projects over using roller/brush. So much quicker and a better quality finish.

Just remember on speed that that a light coat can be covered over with another light coat. Don't try and get final finish in one pass. To heavy a coat and it will run and you will have to roll out.... Don't ask me how I know....

The gun puts the bedliner on like this picture.Very rough texture.Do you like it this way or from the other pic i put on earlier?Post 58.The bedliner starts to dry instantly vs the epoxy which is slower to dry so it can run and seep into cracks.I dont know if i will get the same pattern with the epoxy i probaly wouldnt like it but wont hurt to try a little area. Also what im doing or should i say did was take an old Campbell spay gun and i drilled the nosel a little bit bigger, but i need to go out and get the connecter from the gun to the hose its gone.As for light vs heavy coat i resemble that remark:D:D

That is a good pic. If that is what the finish product looks like, I don't think it would work well for spraying for shooting the epoxy on the boat the way I want it.... :frown-new:

I am leary trying epoxy in my HVLP gun, but the manufacture (Of my setup) says I can with the right tip (2.0 mm-2.5 mm). I am just concerned if it kicks before I have cleaned it... I don't want to think about the amount of effort it will require to clean.

You shouldnt have to worry i you dont dilly dally.Use xylene to clean works great. My hvlp is a cheapo so maybe?Nothing ventured nothing gained.P.S. i dont think that is good enough either for the epoxy. No big deal, ive been meaning to buy that gun for a long time.

Don't think it will work. It requires a relatively low viscosity (70 din). The earlex 5500 can do 130 din. Since they don't recommend thinning I am leery of trying any spraying now. Found this video (See below) where the guy says it is like a brownie mix. That is pretty thick. I saw in another thread that after about two or three hours you could use soap/water and a sponge to help smooth it out. Making a really smooth surface. May try that. Still toying with ideas. Hopefully, between us we will be able to come up with a good solution.

EDIT:
Found this from another forum. People talking about adding Steelflex and what they think.

Interesting video.Ive got a feeling the guns not going to work too well but what i will do is just mix enough to draw from the gun and try and if no go will immediately dump the contents in the boat and use a brush.Wish i could open a can of undercoating and compare consistency.I ended up putting the bedliner on the floor with a brush as it was getting hard to push that stuff through the gun. There was something in the product that made it shoot strands every few seconds and it dried to the touch within 5 minutes on applying.Seems really tough and nice rough texture for anti slip.

Im going to invest in a sandblaster gun i believe for the bottom and some minor truck work. The fasco is in but the border is really busy right now so im keeping an eye on the bridge cam ,if not today i will go early tomorrow when its usually very light.I want to take advantage of the great weather we have been getting before it gets crappy as usual this year.

Use the sand blaster on the trailer and your truck, not a good idea to use it on aluminum boats, it will pit the surface badly. Become one with your boat and use Jasco stripper on it, the two of you will become very close by the time you're finished. :heh:

I paid to have mine blasted and noticed some minor pitting (Areas I hadn't noticed before), but I am not sure its from the blasting or just how bad a shape this boat was in. I will say, she sure is clean. If only I had someplace to store and work on another boat.... I would love to get a 22 ft boat to restore (Don't tell the admiral)

Ok if its that bad for boats i wont use it there.

I am assuming you are thinking about doing it for paint, correct? There are different schools of thought on stripping boats, some say take it all off. While others say as long as paint is not flaking and has a strong hold you don't need to. Your choice
